of manufacture that is .not only pleasing to V the eye but is also useful in purpose.
It accordingly is an object of ourinvention to'provide a novel form of device having a associated a standard bearing a handle, preferably in the form of a doll bust, which bust has associated therewith a dress or flexible shield'for concealing the bell and standard, means, adjustable, if preferred, being also associated with said standard for adjusting the fullness of said dress or shield, said bust, also, being ornamented, if desired.
The above and further objects and advantages of our invention, as will hereinafter more fully appear, we attain by the construction described in the specification and illustrated on the drawings, forming apart of our' application.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which similar reference characters denote similar parts. In the drawings,
Fig. 1 is a part sectional and part elevational view of our invention,
F 2 is a rear elevational view of Fig. 1, but showing the dress or shield omitted,
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view ofthe doll bust and preferred attaching or securing means, removed from the standard,
Fig. 4 is a part sectional and part elevational view of the standard,
Fig. 5 is a. plan view of the disk for adj usting the fullness of the shield,
Fig. 6 is an elevational view of the bell clapper,
Fig.7 is asimilar View of the bell support, Fig. 8 is a fragmentary elevational view of a modified form of standard and disk, and Fig. 9 is a plan view of the disk shown in F ig. ,8.
.DeScribing our invention more in detail,
the bell support 2 is provided with a bell clapper or tongue 4 (Fig. 6) which is suspended-by suitable connection 6, to the screw eye Sadapted to be, screwed. into the lower end ofthe "standard 10,1preferably made of wood or other suitable material, said standard being provided with a screw socket 12 (Fig. 4;) if preferred, forthereception of j the shank of thescrew eye 8. The standard 10 may be tapered as shown,
and has a tapered top po'rtionl l (Fig. 4) to receive the socket portion '16 of the bust 18,
which maybe ornamented or. embellishedwith a hat, bouquet or in any manner preferred. a Thestandard' 10' is also provided with a hole, 18 for the reception of the front fastening ,means 20 of, greater length than therear fastening means 22, so that said,
front fastening means may be passed through the hole 18, twisted togetheriwith therear fastening means 22 and embedded in or placed in a groove in the standard 18, holes 24 being provided injthe socket portion 16' for the reception of the fastening means,
which may be made of fiexiblewire, although. other suitable fastening means may be used,
the connection being either permanent ordetachable, as preferred.
Suspended fromthe bust 18, which forms, the handle of the device, is a shield 26, which may be a flexible dress of ornamental design and associated with the bust 18, in any manner desired, and constructed of any preferred material, said shield formingan orna mental means for concealing bothstandard and bell support, as well as any unsightly fastening or securing means, and to lnsure that the shield is always in extended position,
a disk or other shield expanding means 28 is positioned between the standard 10 and the bell 2, the hole 30 receiving the shank ofthe screw eye 8.
' It may he sometimes desirable to adjust the fullness of the shield 26. For this purpose the standard 10 is provided with grooves 5, and the disk 28 with projections 7 (Fig. 9) for moving in said grooves, the disks 28' be.- ing thus capable of adjustment toward and away from the bell support 2 so that the full ness of the shield may be adjusted.
While we have thus described our inven tion with great particularity, it willbe clear that the same may be modified throughout a Wide range. e accordingly do not propose to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, but reserve the right in practice to make any and all modifications thereof that fall With-in the scope ofthe appended claims. 7
We claim as our invention: V
1. An article of manufacture comprising a bell support, a'standard secured'at one end to said support, a bust fitting over the other end of said standard and forming a handle, means securing said bust to said standard, a standard and bell concealing means associated with said bust, and means associated with said standard for holding said last means out of contact With said bell support.
2. An article of manufacture comprising abell support, a standa'rdsecured at one endto said support, an ornamental handle detachably connected to the other endof said standard, an ornamental shield secured to said handle for concealing said standard and support, and a disk detachably associated With said standard for holding said shield away from said support.
"3. An article of manufacture comprising a bell support, a'sta-ndard secured at oneend to said support, an ornamental handle connected 'to the other end of said standard, a flexible shield for concealing said standard and said support, and adjustable means on said standard for distending said shield.
4. A doll bell comprising in combination,
s a doll, a standard, flexible means having poitions' extending transversely through said standard for det achablyconnecting said doll to said standard, a bell connected to said standard, a dress for said doll, and means associated With said device for 'distending said dress.
In testimony whereof wehave signed our names to this specification.
