NONGLARE ATTACHMENT- FOR HATS Filed April 15, 1929 I 6 fi"?i':"i|'h'iiiilii\\Wk INVENTOR ATTORNEY B at elnied ,.i ne 17, 193a GEORGE L. B AKEsL YQor MERoEn-jcALIroRrIIA NONGLARE ecrqmorimerirjog 1r" i This invention relates to automobile clriv 'iiigiaids anal vpaiticularly to a non-glare at :tachn e'nt' or glareshieldto protect the eyes t ofthe driver-from the glare of approaching 5 lights 013 from the rays of the sun when low 'The principa'l object of my invention is to 4 V provide a device of this general characte A which instead of being-mountetlonthe motor I vehicle itself, wenew the ease, is arranged i t-O be cletachably and ,a'cljustahly supported by thebrim of the-hater the visor of the cap- 'of the driver. The device is so arranged that "itis not ordinarily in the ay so as to impair a 1111 and natural vision-hut When the occasion 1; f arises the driver by a very slight forward 1 tipping 01 his head or hat causes the defvi;ce to be loweretl-isiifiicientlyto shield his v r. l, eyes and cut the glare effectively, While still 1" Y 29 enabling him to properlyseethe road ahead. i The device is also constructed so as tobe very i lightsoethat it Will not exert sufiicient clovv'n"v e f ward pull on the brim to. affect the natural v 'ha n'gof the same orbe noticecl'hy the wearer. F'Ihis hon-glare shield devicetherefore re- 7 qiiires no manual manipulationto enable it to be adjusted to allordin'ary light conditions; 1 since, as above statethla slight headmoverieiit-plaoesit in or out ofthe'path of: any n-glaringrays. 3 g e q 7 A further object ofthe invention is'to'pro- "fluce a-siii ple antlin'experisive deviceancl yet one \vhich-Will be exceedingly eftectiv'e for i -th e purpose forvwhichit is'designedh l These objects I accomplish by means of" sueh structure an tl relati'vefl arrangement of mitts-(1s;willftilly sqipearby a perusaljoflthe v ifelloivingspecificationendolaims. edge of the shield ,is then disposed close against the brim and follows around thesame so as not onlyto tend to prevent any sagging of the brim but keeps out light from between the brim and the top of the shield. Also said member 9 is disposed at a forward and downward angle relative to thehorizontal plane of the jaws so that the shield sets at a corresponding angle and light rays striking the shield from ahead are deflected somev what upwardly.
The double thickness of the shield toward the top, had by reason of the two superimposed colored sheets, eiiectively cuts the glare of very strong lights such as that of the sun;
while the singlethicknessof theshield below is sufficient to cut-the glare of most headlights while'still enabling the driver to see' the road .therethrough. Also the height of the shield is not great enough to prevent the driver from actually looking under the shield to obtain an unobstructed view of the roadway and other features immediately in front of his car. 'The shield being detachably mounted on the hat it may be placed or removed instantly andmay also be adjusted laterally of the brim without disturbing the set- I ting-of the hat on the head,-asethe position of the lights relative to the drivenmay-otemand, and so as to give the best results with the least head movement.
While I have here shown and preferably use a shield element and clip made in the shape and relatives sizes as shown, it will be obvious that variousdeparturesmay be made from such showing withoutv departing in the slightest from the spirit of the invention,
which in the main is to provide a non-glare shield for detachable and depending association with a head cover.
Having thus described my invention what Iclann as new and useful and deslreto secure by Letters Patent is 1. In connection with a non-glare eye shade, a clip comprising spaced-jaws to re- .fceive the brim of a hat therebetvv'een and a channel shaped membercut from and"depending from the lower aw intermediate its ends to frictionally engage the upper edge of the shade.
2. In. connection with a non-glare eye shade, a clip comprising spaced jaws to-receive the brim of a hat there'between,and a channel shaped member cut from and depending from the lower jaw intermediate its ends with an outward slant toward its lower end to snugly receive the upper edge of'the shade, whereby the latter will be disposed with corresponding slant. g
V In testimony whereof I atfix my signature.
' V GEORGE L. 'BLAKESLEY.
