In a knitting needle of the type de scribed, the combination comprising a straight shank portion, a slotted long curved portion connected to the shank, a hooked shaped portion attached to the long curved portion being sharply curved at the point of attachment with the long curved portion andterminating in a straight portion, a latch member having one end formed with a cam surface and pivoted at that point in the slot of the long curved portion so that its free end will contact with the end of the straight portion of the hook when the latch is closed,
and a spring secured in the slot of the long curved portion which is adapted to engage the cam surface of the latch to hold the latch in open position under a slight tension when thelatch is moved from closed to open position.
