This invention relates to an oil change reminder for use by motor vehicle operators and it refers particularly to a reminder or memorandum card made in the form of an annular, card-like clip that may be applied to an element of the instrument board in a place always conspicuous to the operator of the vehicle and on which a notation may be made as a reminder for the change of 10 oil at a certain mileage.

It is the principal object of the present invention to provide an oil change reminder of the above character that is applicable to the instrument panels of automobiles but is especially designed for the late model Ford automobiles, and which is in the nature of a ring-like card or disk, of paper, cardboard, or other suitable flexible material, on which a notation may be made, and which is split so as to permit it to be opened and fitted about the base of the dash board lamp and held in upright position by an outer edge thereof engaging with the side of the gasoline gauge housing which is adjacent thereto.

It is also an object of this invention to provide an oil change reminder that may be made at a very small cost so that it is economical to discard it after an oil change is made to replace it by a new one on which a new notation is made for the next oil change.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a card of the above character that has additional value as an advertising medium.

Other objects of the invention reside in the details of construction and combination of the card with the instrument board ele- 40 ments to which it is applied.

In accomplishing these and other objects of the invention, I have provided the improved details of construction, the preferred forms of which are illustrated in the accom panying drawings, wherein- Figure 3 is a perspective view of the same,

illustrating how the separated portions arev bent apart for application to a supporting member. Figure 4 is a preferred form of reminding card.

Referring more in detail to ings l designates, in its entirety, the instrument panel of a Ford automobile within which is mounted, at the top, a housing 2 for the gasoline gauge; at the center, a dash lamp 3; at opposite sides of the'lamp, the ignition switch and ammeter housings 4c and 5, respectively; at the bottom, a housing 6 for the speedometerdial, which, at 7, indicates the total mileage. The housing for the gasoline gauge is substantially circular and projects slightly from the surface of the instrument panel and is spaced from and directly above the dash lamp; the lamp being carried in a cylindrical base portion 8 which also projects from the panel.

The present oil change reminder is especially designed for application to the;above described instrument board of late model Ford cars, and it consists of an annularly shaped card or disk 10 within which a concentric, circular opening llis formed; this opening being of such. diameter as to fit the drawsnugly about the lampbase 8 The width of the card outside the central opening is such as to give the card suflicient stiffness and rigidity that, when it is'once applied about the support, it will retain itself in place without additional holding 'means until it is manually removed. In order that the card may be easily applied about a lamp base, it is split or divided by a radial cut at the bottom side, as at-12, thereby permitting the portions at opposite sides ofthe split to, be offset one from the other, as shown in Fig-- ure'3, for application of the device about the lamp base. Then, when'the card is-pushed flatly against the panel, these end portions close together closely about the lamp base.

For the purpose] of preventing thei'card from rotating on its" support, it is formed at the top edge with a slight extension provided with a radially curved, upper surface, as at 15, which is curved in accordance with the curvature of the adjacent sideof the housing of the gasoline gauge and fits, snugly against it, as shown in F i ure 1.

Formed on the card or isk, at the upper side of the opening, is .a panel 16 within which may be written or otherwise noted the mileage at which the next oil change should be made. Each notation is placed thereon at the time an oil change is made and it is determined by reference to the total mileage shown on the speedometer dial. Above the panel is printed the words Change oil at; for instance, should it be desired to change oil each 500, miles, and the total mileage shown on the speedometer at the time an oil change-is made should be 2000 miles, the notation to be marked on the card panel 16 would be 2500 miles. While I have illustrated the deviceas being applicable to a certain type of dash panel or instrument board, it is apparent that by a change of shape or size it could be made to suit other designs without departing from the spirit of the invention, also, the cards, while, here shown to be of circular or ring Iike form, might just as well be of shapes"- other'than here shown, and they serve, not only as means for the display of a reminding notation but also as a display element on which a dealer may advantageouslyplace certain advertising matter.
