This invention refers to flyer spinning and like frames in which drag is imparted to the spinning bobbins by frictional devices and has for its object improved means for doing so. 7
According to this invention a ring traveller and ring are employed to impart drag to the spinning bobbin. The traveller which I employ is unlike other travellers in that it comprises a segmental annular loop partly surrounding the ring. The spinning bobbin is revolved as is usual by the threadcoming from the flyer and drives the ring traveller, which by centrifugal force against the ring,
5 retards or drags the spinning bobbin.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical section of one form of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line IIII of Figure 1, looking downward;

In giving a. practical example of my inven-.
tion as applied to an ordinary flyer spinning worsted frame, I employ (see Figures 1 and 2) a flyer spinning spindle 1 and a lifting rail 2 traversed up and down in a usual way. On
the lifting rail2 coaxial with the spindle 1 I mount a spinning ring 3 and on it I place a ring traveller 4 comprising a segmental annular loop partly surrounding said spinning ring. Resting on the lifting rail 2 and inside of the ring 3 I mount loosely on the spindle a collar 5'extending above and with a flange 5 over the top of the ring 3. An
49 opening 5 is formed in the periphery of the flange of the collar 5 to clear the traveller 4.
On the upper side of the collar 5are pins 5 which engage with a spinning bobbin 6 I mount on the spindle 1 and which sits upon and drives the collar?) and the ring traveller 4. The traveller as it is driven retards and thus imparts drag to the spinning bobbin.
' In a second practical example of this invention as applied to an ordinary Worsted 59 flyer spinning frame and in which I drive the traveller on the ring by means of a wire projecting from the disc or collar driven by the bobbin, I employ (see Figures 3 and 4) a flyer spindle 11, a lifting rail 12, traversed up and down in a usual manner. On the lifting rail 12 I mount a ring holder 13 coaxial with the spindle 11 and in the said ring holder I fix a spinning ring 14. Inside of the ring 14 I mount a collar or disc 15 resting on the ring holder 13. The disc 15 has on its upper end two pins 15 with which a bobbin 16 engages, which bobbin I mount on the spindle 11. On the periphery ofthe disc 15 I fix two wire loops 15 extending outwards over the top of the ring 14. I place on the ring 14 a ring traveller 17 which embraces the wire loop 15 and the ring 14. One or more travellers may be put on the wire loops if required. It will thus be understood that when the bobbin 16 revolves it drives the disc 15 and the traveller 17, the latter impinging on the ring by centrifugal force and thus imparting drag to the bobbin 16.
I claim:
1. In a flyer spinning frame, a spinning bobbin, in combination with a ring and a segmental annular loop partly surrounding said ring adapted to impart drag to said spinning bobbin. I
2. In a-fiyer spinning frame, a soinning bobbin, a ring and a segmental annular loop on said ring driven by said spinning bobbin, substantially as and for the purposes described. 1
3. In a flyer spinning frame, the arrangement described in claim 1 in combination with a disk driven by the spinning bobbin and driving the segmental loop on the ring, substantially as described.
4. In a'fiyer spinning frame, a spinning bobbin, a ring, and a traveller partly surrounding said ring adapted to impart drag to said spinning bobbin, in combination with a disc driven by Saidspinning bobbin and a loop carried by said disc and engaging said traveller, said loop being adapted to drive said traveller, substantially as described.
