DISPLAY EAsEL Filed April 25, 1929 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventor Aiiorncy Patented June 10, 1930 STATES rarest QFFIC DISPLAY EAsEL Application filed April 25, 1929. Serial No. 358,004.
The present invention relates to a displa easel for pictures and other similar purposes and has for its prime object to provide an easel of this nature with an adjustable frame engaging structure.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of an easel of this nature which is strong and durable, inexpensive .to manufacture, attractive in appearance, easy to manipulate, thoroughly efiicient and reliable in use and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as Will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the easel embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical section therethrough,
taken substantially on the lines 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail horizontal section taken substantially on the line 3+3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail horizontal section taken substantially on the line 44 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a the bars, and
Figure 6 is an enlarged horizontal section taken substantially on the line 66 of Figure 2. V 7
Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the numerals 5 denote a pair of 49 front legs and numeral 6 a rear leg. These legs are arranged so as to diverge clownwar'dly from each other and terminate in outwardly and upwardly coiled feet- 7 and 8 respectively. The legs 5 merge into vertical extensions 9 having downwardly curved terminals 10. The leg 6 has a vertical extension 11 which merges into an upwardly and rearwardly inclined arm 12, the upper end of which is forwardly curved as at 14 and terminates in a rising and slightly rearperspective view of one of will be seen that I have ywardly and upwardly inclined ear 15. A
pair of bands 16 and 17 are disposed about the ends of the extensions 9, 9 and 11 and hold the same in spaced relation.
A pair of spaced parallel co-extensive bars 18 have their lower ends riveted or otherwise secured as at 20 to the ends of the extremities 10 and they incline upwardly and rearwardly and have their upper ends riveted to a cross plate 21 as is indicated at 22. The lower ends of the bars 18 terminate in hook like extensions 23 forwardly disposed.
A plate 2-1 is riveted to the upper end of the bars 18 by said rivets 22, it being noted that said plate 21 is on the front side of the bars, while the plate 2% is on the rear side thereof. The plate 24 has its center riveted as at 25 to the ear 15. A bar 26 is slidable between the plates 21 and and is also slidable between the adjacent edges of the bars 18. The upper end of the bar 26 merges into a forward extension 27, termitnating in an upwardly disposed inverted hook like portion 28.
A bolt 29 has a pair of washers 30 and 31 thereon, the former engaging the rear faces of the bars 18 while the latter engages the front faces thereof and a thumb nut 32 is threaded on the bolt so as to tighten washers 30 and 31 against the bars 18 for holding the bar 28 in proper adjusted position dependingupon the height or" the picture frame or the like disposed in the easel, it being understood that the bottom edge 8 of the picture frame would rest in the hook like extensions 23 and the upper edge of the picture would be engaged by the extensions 27.
From the above detailed description, it 90 devised an exceedingly simple easel structure which may be manufactured at a low cost and yet be made strong and durable. It will further be seen that the easel is attractive in appearance, easy to adjust, and otherwise well adapted to its purpose.
The present embodiment of the invention, of course, has been described in detail merely for the purposes of exemplification, since these in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed is g 1. An easel of the class described comprising a pair of front legs, a. rear leg, said legs merging at their upper ends in spaced vertical extensions, the extensions of the front legs terminating in downwardly curved and forwardly extending extensions, A
the extension of the rear legmerging into an upwardly and rearwardly inclined armi merging at its upper end into a forwardly directed extension terminating in an upwardly disposed ear, a pair of spaced parallel co-extensive bars fixed to the terminals and terminating at their lower ends in forwardly directed hook extensions, a pair of plates. connecting the upper ends of the bars, one of said plates being fixed to said ear,
and an adjustable'bar slidable' between the two platesand between the first two mentioned bars and having clamp means on its lower end to engage said first two'mentioned bars. v
2. An easel of the class described comprising a pair of front legs, a rearleg, said legs merging at their upper endsin spaced vertical extensions, the extensions of the front legs terminating in downwardly curved and forwardly extending extensions, the extension of the rear legmerging into an upwardly and rearwardly inclined arm inerging at its upper end into a forwardly directed extension terminating in an upwardly disposed ear, a pair of spaced parallel co-extensive bars fixed to the terminals 7 V and terminating at their lower ends in forwardly directed hook extensions, a pair of plates connecting the upper ends of the bars,
one of said plates being fixed to said ear, a a.
and an adjustable bar slidable between the two plates and between the first two mentioned bars and having clamp means on the lower end to engage, said first two mentioned bars, the upper end of the last mentioned bar having a forwardly directed extension.
In testimony whereof I afiixmy signature. SIMON W. .WIENER.
