IMPROVEMENT IN c'uT-oFFs FOR WATER-CONDUCTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,238, dated April 18, 1876; application filed March 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM P. MYER, of Terre Haute, in thecounty of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gut-Oil for Water-Conductors, of which thefollowing is a specification: Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of my improved device, taken through the line a: a), Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a topview of the same. Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
The object of this invention isto furnish an improved cut-ofi' for the water conductors or leaders of buildings, which Shall be simple in construction, easily shifted to direct the water into one or the other ofithe discharge-pipes, and will always indicate in what position th shiftingspout may be set.
The invention consists in the combination of the rigid shaft, the rigid lever, and the curved spring-catch bar with the shifting-spout and the branched pipes, as hereinafter fully described: l
A is the COndllCtOIfSPOilt, which leadsto the cistern or other receiver. B is the branch discharge-pipe which leads to the waste-pipe, sewer, or other plac'e'wliere the water is to be discharged. The pipe '3 is-connected with a,
hole in the side of the pipe A. To the pipes A B, where they meet, is pivoted a spout, G, which is made halfround at its middle part and has its ends rounded oft. The end edge toward the pipe B is slightly inclined outward, and its other end edge is slightly inclined inward, and underlaps a flange, a, formed upon the inner surface of the pipe A. The spout (l is strengthened against the dash of the Water by braces 0 extending from its pivoting-shaft c to its end parts. The spout U is rigidly attached to the shaft 0 and to one of the ends of said shaft is rigidly attached --a lever, D, which is placed parallel with the length of the spout 0, so as to always indicate in what position the said'spout may be. E is a'springbar, the middle part of which is attached to an arm, F, attached to the pipes A B at-thei angle. The bar E is curved upon the arc of a circle, and has shoulders 6 formed upon it near its ends to receive the lever D and lock it in place. I
By this construction, by shifting the lever D from one to the other of the shoulders c, the spout 0 will be shifted to cause the Water to be discharged through either of the discharge-pipes, as may be desired.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the rigid shaft 0, the rigid lever D, and the curvedspring-catch bar E,with the shifting spout U and the branched pipes A B, substantially as herein shown and described.
