Description

June 3,1930. 1. DICHTER ORNAMENTAL FIGURE Filed Jan. 7, 1928 A I m/erm)? fsadar ilk/22?? Patented June 3, 1930 ENT 1 oFFIcE ISADOR DICHTER, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS ORNAMENTAL FIGURE Application filed January 7, 1928. Serial No. 245,202.
The invention relates to improvements in ornamental, figures and has for its primary object the provision of an improved figure of this character capable of economical manufacture.
A further object of the invention is the provision of such a figure capable of production in quantities and in various designs.
A further object of the invention is the provision of such a figure capable of being made of cast metal or the like all in one solid piece and at one operation and provided with means for concealing the method by which made and varying the the ornamentation of said figure. I v
' The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which' Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a figure of an elephant constructed in accordance with the invention;
' Fig. 2 is a section taken substantially on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
7 Fig. 3 is a fragmentary side view of said figure with a part removed;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a removable closure member employed in the construction and Fig. 5 is a fragmentary section illustrating a modified form of construction.
The form of construction] illustrated in Figs. 1to 4, inclusive, comprises an animal figure 10 in the form of an elephant made of cast metal, cast all in one piece. To permit of the casting of the figure 1O all in one piece, a large core opening 11 is provided in the top of the figure for the accommodation and removal of a suitable core in the casting operation, as will be readily understood by those skilled in this art. In order to close and conceal the core opening 11, a closure member 12 p is provided consisting of a metal casting in p the form of an ornamental blanket or saddle member for said elephant figure. The closure 12, as shown, is made in substantially inverted U-shape in vertical section and formed and shaped to fit snugly over the back of the elephant figure, embracing and clamping the body thereof to hold said closure member in place. As shown, and in order to give a clamping efiect to the closure member 12, the same is made large enough to extend down the side of the animal figure beyond the largest breadth thereof and whereby the lower ends of said closure have to be slightly sprung apart in order to pass over said body, thereby efiecting a clamping action of the closure member on the body member to hold the former in place.
By this arrangement the main ornamental figure or body may be made economically in large quantities all in one piece by a simple casting operation and kept in stock. Likewise, the closures or blanket members 12 may be also made up in quantities of different ornamental or saddle designs and subsequently applied to the figures as desired or demanded by commercial considerations. In this way the economical production of ornamental figures in. a wide variety of ornamental designs or effects is possible.
In Fig. 5 a modified form of construction for holding the closure member 12 in place has been illustrated. This modified form of construction is the same as that already described, except that the closure member 12 is provided adjacent each corner with an inwardly extending rounded boss or knob 13 adapted and arranged to engage in corresponding depressions or openings 14: provided in the body 10 and thereby further securing the closure member 12 in place on the body member 10, as will be readily understood.
While the preferred forms of construction for carrying the invention into effect have been illustrated, these are capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. It is, therefore, not desired to limit the patent to the precise details set forth but to include also such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim: A construction of the class described comprising a hollow cast metal elephant figure at Q South L
