IMPROVEMENT IN SKIRT-SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 76,187, dated April 18, 1876; application fil ed February 23, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. MGMIL- LAN, of Toledo, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Skirt-Supporters, of which the followingis a clear, full, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making a part of this specification, in which the figure represents the form of the device when in use.
My invention relates to that form of skirtsupporters which causes the weight of the skirts to rest upon the wearers shoulders; and it consists in the combination and arrangement of the parts as hereinafter described.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.
In the drawings, A B represent two elastic straps crossing each other as they pass.
through the adjusting slide 0, and having one end of each fastened to the rings or triangular plates b I), while the opposite end of each is provided with the adjusting slides a, after passing through the said plates 1), the slide a inclosing and moving along the straps A B for the purpose of adjusting the size of the supporter to the wearer. Attached to the plates 1) are the hooks c c for the purpose of catching and holding the skirts to be supported.
The application of my invention is as follows The arms of the wearer are passed through the upper curves of the straps at D D, the slide 0 coming on the. back of the person. The hooks c c are then attached to the skirt, and by means of the slides a a the skirt is readily adjusted to its proper position, while by means of the slide 0 the supporter is adjusted to the shoulders of the wearer.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 1 As a new article of manufacture a skirtsupporter, as described, and consisting of the elastic straps A B and slide 0, in combination with the slides a, a, plates 11 b, and hooks c 0, when arranged to operate substantially as set forth.
