IMPROVEMENT IN HUNG-BORING FAUCETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,812, dated April 4, 1876; application liltd September 29, 1675.
To all rv/tom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HUGH J. YOUNG, GEO. L. ELLIs, and JNO. H. STHOTHMAN, of Minueapolis, in the State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Bung-Boring Faucet; and we hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, ref erence being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view. 1
Our invention relates to that class of bung borers to which a faucet is'attaehed, and which cuts its own way through a barrel by boring.
Our invention consists of a hollow plug provided with cuttii'ig-edges and a screw-thread at one end and a sleeve oscillating around an opening in the other end, forming a valve. It further consists in supplying, through the head of the hollow plug, a rod which passes through a packing, and so constructed and arranged that it can push from the open end the Wooden plug cut out of the barrel.
In order that those skilled in the art may make and use our invention, we will proceed to describe the manner in which we have carried it into efieot.

0. Near the head 0, and on the side, is a stop, 11, and in a line with it is an opening, E. for the egress of the liquid. Around the plug, and about the Opening E, is a sleeve, F, provided with a handle, f, and-having its edge cut away at n, so that its motion is l mited by the stop t. This sleeve is provided with an opening, E, corresponding in size to the open ing E, and the-motion of the sleeve acts as a valve to open or close the outlet E. The cutting-edge a is bifurcated, as shown, and at each of the diagonal points 0 o the edge is slightly struck up and spread, so as to form auger-points for cutting into the barrel. The point a is screwed into the barrel and takes out a' plug of the size of the inside diameter of the borer, the rod e drives it out by a blow on the head 6, and then the liquid can be drawn by operating the sleeve F.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The sleeve 1*, provided with the handle and opening E, in combination with a hollow'plug, A, provided with the bifurcated cutting-edge a, screw-thread b, perforated head c,with packing d, and the rod 6, as described and set forth.
