The present invention relates to improvements 1n receptacles and has reference more particularly to a basket that can be collapsed into relatively small compass so that when r in a folded condition will not occupy any considerable amount of space, said basket beingv numerals indicate like parts throughoutthe Figure 5 is a side elevation o-f'the basket in its collapsed position, and

In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved collapsible basket the same including upper and lower substantially rectangular shaped wire frames denoted by the reference characters 2' and 3 respectively.

The means for spacing the top and bottom frames with respect to each other when the basket is assembled for use will be presently described. The basket further includes a burlap covering for the bottom, sides and end of the basket, said coveringbeing denoted by the reference character 4 and the upper edges of the burlap covering are secured to the'sides and ends of the upper frame 2 in any appropriate manner. Also forming a salientpart of the present invention is the 11, the lower ends of these strands of wire substantially U-sha'ped wire unit 5, the base 7 portion 6 thereof extending transversely across the bottom of the frame'3 at the intermediate portion thereof whilethe arms 7' and 8 extend upwardlyalong-the outer'sides of? theburlap covering. The upper ends of the armsare bent, back upon themselves to form elongatedloops 9 that slidably engage with the respective sides of the upper frame 2 as suggested in Figure 3 andfurthermore these elongated loops permit the collapsing of the basket and it is to be also understo'od that the baseportion 6 is not welded or otherwise fixedly attached, to the respective sides of thebottom frame 3 6. so that this U-shaped unit 5 will be disposed in a diagonal position when the basket is collapsed.

The collapsible basket further includes the provision of a pair of end bracing units denoted by the reference character 10 and each unit comprises a pair of strands of wire that have their intermediate portions twisted together to form the vertically disposed shank extending outwardly from the shank 11 in diverging relation as at 12 and 13 respectively and the free ends thereof are bent around the respective ends of the bottom frame 3 as at 14. i

The upper ends of the strands of wire of each end unit extend upwardly in diverging relation from the twisted shank 11 as at 15 and 16 respectively and the free ends of the diverging portions 15 and 16 are bent to form eyes 17 that engage around the respective ends ofthe top frame 2 adjacent the sides of said top frame as clearly suggested in Figure 3.

The eye portions 14 and 17 further con- Q0 stitute' a hinge connection between the end unit and the top and bottom frame and when the parts are arranged as shown in Figures 1 and 3 inclusive, the basket is assembled and p 3 will be open at its top to receive various articles. WVhen not in use, the basket can be collapsed or folded to small compass without occupying any considerable amount of space so that said basket can be shipped more ice easily and handled more efliciently than a non-collapsible basket.

Furthermore a collapsible basket of the above mentioned character will be strong and durable and very inexpensive in its manufacture.

While I have shown the preferredembodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.

In a collapsible basket, spaced top and bottom frames, a covering-forthe bottom, sides and ends of the basket, end units pivotally connected tothe respective ends of the top and bottom frames, and an additional unit for association with theintermediate portions of the sides of the top and bottom' frames,said last mentioned unit comprising a U-shaped-structure haying the base portion thereof extending across the bottom frameat the intermediateportion thereof, the arms of the V U-shaped structure extending upwardly from the sides of the frame,the upper ends of the arms being slidably and pivotallyassociated with intermediate portions of the re- 0 spective sides of the top frame.
