This invention relates'to improvements in a curb boxes, and has for its objects to provide a box, and more particularly acover therefor, which will remain at its proper position with respect to the surface of the adj acent ground, even when the latter is subjected to freezing temperature.

A further object is to provide means asso-' ciated with the cover to rigidly clamp itin position in the extremity of the box,andat the same time, facilitate its swift and convenient removal. r

Another object is the provision of,- a cover for. curb boxes which whenapplied, will completely closethe extremity of thebox against the admission of dirt or other foreign matter. i

A still further object'is the selection of appropriate materials for'the manufacture of the various parts of the box, and cover, soas to assure at all times, convenient removal of the cover.

With the foregoing objects outlined and with other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, .and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim,

Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 5 indicates the body of the box provided as usual with the helical groove, 6. Internally at its upper extremity, the box is provided with two opposed spiral ribs 7, extending downwardly a comparatively short distance within the box, and terminating at their upper extremities in flanges 8 lying at the opposite sides of the box, and in the same circumferential plane,;so as to present a seat for the cover, indicated at 9.
