Description

April 29, 1930. J, MYERS 1,756,520
LOOM TEMPLE Filed Feb. 9, 1929 Patented Apr. 29, 1930 UNITED STATES,
HARRY J. MYERS, OF GENTRAL FALLSJRHODE ISLAND 100M 'rEMrLE Application filed February 9, 1929. Serial No. 338,844.
'Thisinvention relates to certain new and useful improvements in loom temples and pertains more particularly to an improve ment upon Patent No. 1,121,194, of Dec. 15,
In said patent the arm which carries the selvage loop retainer is attached to the loom temple by means of a coil spring which in applying same necessitates removal of the W temple from the loom, followed by the boring of a hole to receive the anchoring pin for the coil spring. This requires stopping of the loom and necessitates readjustment of the temple in the loom.
The present invention aims to provide an improved manner of connecting the structure supra to the loom, and also one whlch eliminates the necessity of removing the temple orin any manner affecting its adjustment.
The present invention further aims to provide a simplified form of carrier for the loop retainer and its tensioning means and further to embody such elements in aunitary structure which latter more specifically is secured to the usual temple box by means of the bolt carried by the temple box and projecting upwardly therefrom.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention, showing same applied to the temple box, and
Figure 2 is a top plan View of the invention showing same in position in the loom.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a bracket 1 of substantially L-shape is employed and which engages over the forward end of the usual temple box 2 of the loom, this temple box carrying the customary pinr-olls and has the usual bolt 3 projecting vertically therefrom. The bolt is removed, and the bracket applied whereupon the bolt is then passed through a slot 4 in the upper side of the bracket 1,. and the bolt tightened thereby to clamp the bracket to the temple box. The vertical arm of the bracket has a stop pin 5 projecting outwardly therefrom and further carries a set screw 6, to which is pivoted a loop or eye 7 formed in the side 8 of a spring arm 9, the arm 9 belng of substantially U-shape and preferably has a coil 10 formed intermediate its ends. Thearm is formed preferably of spring wire, and has its side 8 extended outwardly at 9 to engage the stop pin 5 and thence is extended along the side of the temple box as shown at 10 and carries the usual selvage loop retainer 11 on the free end of the part10. A strap 12' which may be of leather, is pivoted at one end to the stop pin 5, while its opposite end is provided with a series of openings 13 to receive the right angular end 1 10f the other side 15 of the spring arm. By forming the strap 12 of leather or other flexible material it will be seen that the strap can be easily secured in position and can be'flexed so as to enable the right angular end M of the side 15 to be placed in any one of its apertures 13, thereby to tension the arm in accordance with the various degrees of tensioning, such as may be required or found desirable.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the entire structure is carried by the bracket 1, the latter affording a unitary mounting for the stop pin and for the screw, which latter supports the arm, while the stop pin provides a pivotal mounting for the strap. Thus the entire device can be applied and removed as a unit, without in any way disturbing the temple or its adjustment. 7
The lay, which swings toward the breast beam, engages the side 8 of arm 9and'thereby swings the later raising the loop retainer 11 above the line of the cloth. As the lay returns to normal the spring properties of the arm effects return of the retainer 11 to its normal position, as in my said previous patent.
It will be noted that the arm 9may be man- 'ually swung rearwardly above the'screw 6 as a pivot'and when so thrown back same will be held latched, due to the spring action-of the parts and will thus be held in a position 7 so as tonot'interferewith free handling of the yarn. H h I Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is j 1. A device of the type set forth for attachment tothe box of a loom temple, which temple box has a bolt, comprising a bracket of angular form engaged over an end of the box and having an aperture to receive the bolt and to be clamped thereby to the box, a
\ arm and having a series of spaced apertures to receive the other side of the in a selected one thereof, saidotherside of the arm having an angular free-end for supporting the strap. a a V g 2. "A device the type set forth i'o-r at.- tachment to the box of a loom temple,- Which ,temple box has a bolt, comprising .a bracket having means to receive a bolt so as to be held in position thereby, a substantially U-sh'aped springrarm having one of its sides extended and "carrying a selv-age loop retrainer, means to 'pivotally connect said side of the arm to the bracket, a stop en the bracket engageable with said extension, and (t-strap pivoted to the bracket and engaged with the other side of the arm. 7 I
3. A device of the type set torth for attachment to the box of a loom temple, which temple box has a bolt, comprising-a bracket having means to receive the bolt so as to be :7 held in positionthereby, a substantially U-shaped spring arm having an extension on one of its sides provided with a selvage loop retainer, means to pi'votally connect said side of the arm to thebraeket, a stop on the bracket engageable with'said extension, and means connected to theot-her-side ot the arm and pivoted to the bracket for causing the spring arm to have its extension yieldably held in engagement with the stop. l. A loom templeattachment including a substantially U-shaped spring armhaving a selvage loop retainer on the inner side thereof, means to pivotallyconnect the arm to the temple box, stop means engageable with the arm to limit pivotal movement thereof in one direction, and a strap pivoted to the temple box and connected to the outers-ide of the arm above said pivotal point of thestrap to, yielda-bly hold the arm engaged with the stop means.
'5. In a loom temple, a substantially Uz-shaped sprin'gwire member having :the {innercside thereof extended and formed With an eye and with a selvage loopreta-iner, means connected to the box and to the outer side of the member at a point above said pivotal point of the strap for holding the member against the stop. 7
'6. In a loom temple, an arm having a one direction, means connected tothe arm to 1 hold the arm engaged with meda and meansto piv-otally connect the holding means to the temple box whereby to hold the arm against the stop and to enable the arm to be manually swung rearwardly out of operative position and be held latched in inoperative position by the holding means.
In 'a' loom temple, an arm having a selvage loop retainer, means to pivot'the arm tojthe temple box, a stop engage'ab'le with the arm tolimit pivotal movement thereof in one direction, means connected to the arm to hold the arm engaged with the stop and means to connect the holding means to thetemple box whereby to holdthe arm against the stop and to enable the arm to be manually swung rear- Wardly out'of operative position and beheld latched in inoperative position by the hold- HARRY "MYERS;
