AN TDNIO PAGANI, F OHIARI, ITALY I COPYING nmcnmr:
Application. filed January 31, 1928. semi No. 25o,s24, am1 in Italy October 22, 1927.
This invention relates to machines for copying a model by cutting-and carving wood, stone or other material, and has for its object to provide a machine of this character of simple construction and convenient operation whereby sculptured articles or articles in high and has relief may be copied or reproduced.
A further object of the invention is. the
r provision of a machine of this character in which a plurality of copies may be simultaneously made.
In the accompanying drawing wherein an approved embodiment of the invention is illustrated: v V
I Figs. 1 and 1- taken together present a perspective view of the complete machine;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view similar to Fig.
1 of a slightly modified arrangement adapted for use incopying or reproducing high and has relief work;
Figs. '3 and 4. are end and top plan views, respectively, of-the tool carrying frame removed from the machine;
Fig. 5 is an end elevation and Fig. 6 a front elevation of the supporting bench or frame for the model and work.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 indicates the base of the machine provided with the spaced upright columns or posts 2 preferably of cylindrical form and reinforced by stay rods 3,.(Figs. 1 and 1). Brackets 4 and 5 arranged in parallel relation are pivotally mounted at 6 and 7, re-
brackets 51 and 5' are connected by rods 9 and 10 and form, with the latterrods to the frame 8, a parallelogram.
A second parallelogram constituted in part by the side members 13 and 14 is pivotally mounted at 11 and 12 to the extremities of the brackets 4 and 5, and these two parallelograms together constitute the pantographic support for the tool carrying frame, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
A screw shaft 17 having threaded portions 1516 threaded in the frame 8 is mounted for rotation vertically between the uprights 2 and is provided ad acent its lower extremities with a work wheel 20 engaged by a spectively, to a frame 8. The ends of the worm 19 on a shaft 18 which latter is provided with a hand crank for convenience in turning the shaft 18 and effecting vertical adj ustment of the frame 8 together with the pantographic support.
The tool support 19 is mounted between the side members 13 of the pantographie supting tools 25. In order to accommodate the outer holders 24 of variations in the position of the work, the pivotal points 24 are mounted for adjustment in longitudinal slots 23 provided in the support 19. The ends of the several supports 24 opposite the tools and stylus are connected by a rod 40 provided with slots 23 corresponding with the slots 23 and also adapted to facihtate the adjustment of the outer tool holders 24:. Asa matter of convenience in manipulating the tool support the rod is preferably provided with a handle 22.
According to the arrangement above described the stylus 26 is afforded a universal movement, and owing to the provision of the pantographic support and the possibility of the pivotal movement of the tool support 19 about the fulcrums 21, said stylus may be caused to follow the irregular surface of a piece of statuary or the like for copyingthe latter,
As illustrated in Fig. -1, the base 1 of the machine is extendedlaterally below the pantographic support and awork and model supporting bench or frame 28 is mounted for ad- ]ustment thereon, grooves 29 being provided in the base for receiving and guiding the movement of the bench or frame. A frame is mounted for adjustment bodily in the bench frame 28 and rotatably supports a plurality of parallel spindles 30 corresponding in number to the numer of holders 24 and each provided with a worm wheel 33 meshing-with a screw 31 also rotatably supported on the frame 60 and operated by a hand wheel 32 whereby incident to rotary movement'of the screw 31 in one direction'or the other the 5 several spindles 30 are simultaneously turned through corresponding angles. The upper extremities 30 of the spindles 30 are provlded with penetrating screws or like devices 30 for alfixing the models and work thereto. As
stated, the frame 60 is mounted for adjustment bodily in the bench frame 28, and it is secured in its position of adjustment by screws and winged nuts 35 received in slots in arcuate supporting members34. Thus, the
' spindles 30'and the work and model supported thereby may be turned throughout a wide angle from the vertical to the horizontal as a matter of convenience in the operation of the machine. In the modification ofthe invention illustrated in Fig. 2, the bench frame 28 for supporting statuary and like articles to be reproduced or copied isreplaced by a supporting board 27' on which an article 38 in high and has relief is supported whereby copies may be made thereof. The support 19 being capable of turning about a horizontal axis at 21 readily permits movement of the holders 24 through a wide angle for adapting the machine to copying a wide variety of sculptured articles. v
Having now particularly described and ascertained thenature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed;
I declare that what I claim is I 1. A machine for cutting and carving, including a base, a model and work supporting bench adjustable. on said base, columns sup ported on said base, a pantographic support 40 mounted for vertical 'slidable movement on said columns, a tool carrying frame mounted upon the pantographic support and v movable through an angle froma vertical toa horizontal osition, and means connecting the tools carrled by the frame. a
2. A machine as claimed in claim 1, char.- acterized in that the tool carrying-frame includes two'lo'ngitudinal bars and a series of transverse bars connected therewith by pivot Y means to form a series of adjacent articulated parallelograms, the said transverse bars belilsg adapted to carry the supports for the too s I 3. A machine as claimed in claim 1, characteriied in that the bench includes 5 indles for supporting the model and work an means connectlng and efieetin simultaneous adjustment of all of'the spin es of the bench.
