Description
April 22, 1930. A. DUBSKY 1,755,951
PIVOTAL WIND SCREEN FOR PYROPHQRE CIGAR LIGHTERS Filed Feb. 15, 1928 Patented Apr. 22, 1930.
PATENT OFFICE ARTHUR- DUBSKY, F VIENNA, AUSTRIA I IPIVQTAL Winn SCREEN non rynornonn CIGAR nonirnns Application filed February 15, 1928, Serial No. 254,586, and in Austria February 15, 1927.
The invention relates to cigar lighters with spring-covers which are actuated on pressing a push button or the like of the cover latch releaser andwhich are provided with a wind- 6 shield with, or without, which the lighter may be used; and it refers in particularto an arrangement for fixing thewind-shield in the working position. The invention consists in that the two side'- 10 leaves. of the wind-shield are connected with each other at the front solely by a narrow rib which engages behind the push-button or the like of the cover latch releaser, whereby its being fastat the lower. part of the case 1s ensured the more as the lifting of the shield by the cover is reliably prevented by the finger, which operatesthe push-button, when pushing it in,
'The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanyingdrawings, in which:'
, Fi 1 is a side elevation of a cigar lighter showing the improved wind-shield applied thereto, and Y r Fig. 2 is a front end elevation of the same, the lid being shown in closed position.
Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the above described views to indicate corresponding parts. I)
Referring now, more particularlyfto the accompanying drawings there is provided a cigar lighter; of a conventional type including a case lto which is hinged a lid or cover 2, the latter being releasably retained in a closed position by conventional latch-means operable by a push-button 3.
In order to shield the flame of the lighter when the-cover has been raised there is pro- -vided 'an improved wind-shield generally designated by the numeral 4 This shield is formed from a single piece of metal and embodies two side cheeks 5 of a substantially triangular configuration, the body portions being perforated while the upper ends are pivoted on a pintle 6 which transverses the 'case so'that the shield maybe swung upwardly when desired. The lower ends of the cheeks are joined by a transverse connecting rib 7 the same being arranged beneath the push-button 3 while the latter is extended in its normal position acting to prevent ac- "controlling the retention of the cover in a my name.
-cidental'raising of the shield. If the pushbutton 3 is pushed to release the spring operable cover the finger or thumb also comes to rest on the rib 7 and helps to hold, the shield in the normal position shown in full lines on the drawings.
A distinguished advantage of. this construotion lies also in the feature that the burner, between the two only sideways arranged leaves of the screen, lies'open to the 6 front whereby the flame is easily accessible.
What I claim is: j
1. A device of the character described in.- cluding, .in combination, a casing, a pintle traversing the upper part of the casing, a springcover for the casing having pivotal movement about the pintle,a-push button device projecting slightly outward from the front of the casing near its upper end for closed position, a windshield including spaced perforated side cheeks positioned on opposite sides of the casing and cover and having 1votal movement on the ends of the pintlefand a transversely extending rib joining the lower ends of the cheeks and normally positioned beneathvand retainedin such position by the projecting portion of the push button device. v V
2.- A wind-shield for pyrophore cigar lighters of the type having a spring cover and a push-button for controlling the retention of the cover in a closed posltion, comprising spaced perforated. side cheeks positioned on opposite sides of the'casing and pivoted 130,
the sidesof the casing adjacent theirjupper I ends, and a transversely extending rib joining the lower ends of thecheeks and normally positioned "beneath and retained in such position by the push-button of-the lighter, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In witness whereof'I have hereunto signed ARTHURDUBSKY.
