UNITED STATES PATENT OFEIG JASPER THAYER, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO CHARLES H. CHASE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,546, dated March 28, 1876; application filed November 10, 1875.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JASPER THAYER, of the city of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement upon the Cotton-Bale Tie invented by Charles H. Chase, of the city of New Orleans, State of Louisiana, and patented the 2d day of- November, 1875, which is fully set forth in the following speciication, reference being made to the drawings, which I make a part thereof.
The object of my invention is, first, to provide an easy and secure method for securing the ends ofthe baud or hoop after it has been properly adjusted around the bale with the least possible strain upon the buckle. This I secures it from slipping,'as shown in Fig. 1, b. Second, is to arrange the bearings upon the buckle, on which the downward pressure rests, in such a manner as not to interfere with the driving of the wedge. This I accomplish by the projecting lugs, 2 c o, upon the two outer edges of the buckle, set far enough below the top to allow the claw of the goose-neck to work clear of the top of the buckle, as shown in Fig. 2. This can also be accomplished by dispensing with the lugs and putting a pocket or shoe upon the front plate of the buckle, to receivea single claw, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, d, which will accomplish the same end.
I claim as my invention- The buckle having the lugs c c, the shoe or pocket d, Figs. l and 3, and the iiange upon the wedge, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
JASPER THAYER.
