Description
Nmin STATES '1 .WENT Erica.
JOHN FARRAR, OF OUYAHOGA FALLS, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR MAKING STOVE-PIPES, MOLDINGS, CONDUC'I'ORS, EAVES-TROUGHS, &C.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1,755, dated epteinbcr 2, 1.840.
To all whom t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, JOHN FARRAR, of Cuyahoga Falls, Summit county, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Method of Making Moldings, Conductors,
` Eaves-Troughs, Stove-Pipes, ctc. by the application of a roller and cylinder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description.
The nature of my invention consists in applying a roller and cylinder to the forming of moldings, conductors, eaves-troughs, stovepipes, &c.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use iny invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
The machine consists of a bed-piece, Plate l, Figure l, for tin work, twenty inches long, eight inches wide, two inches thick, which is to be made fast to a common work-bench by means of a bolt. 2 2, Fig. 1, are pieces of one inch or more thick, and siX` inches wide, eight v inches long, with holes through them, and fastened to the bed-piece by screws the size oi' the roller orv mandrel 4, Fig. 1, which has af groove cut in its face along its length, to catch the edge of the tin to be worked.
3, Fig. l, is a concave bed, made of wood or iron, to lit the size ofthe roller desired for dftierent kinds of pipe; 5, the crank; 6, the screw on the end of roller for crank 5 2Fig. 2,
`cross-section of concave bed; 3, cross-section of roller; 4, groove in roller. The roller is made to pass through the pieces 2 2, Fig. l, and is drawn out after the formation. of each piece, the end of the tube or pipe worked striking against the pin 2, which will keep it in its place while the roller is drawn out, and the piece worked is taken away and the roller slid back, ready to work another piece, Sie.
Vhat I claim as vmy invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The employment of a roller or cylinder with a groove, in combination with a concave bed for making moldings, conductors, eavestroughs, stove-pipes, &c., as herein described.
JOHN FARRAR.
