Description

E. F. WILLIAMS.
FRICTION-CLUTCH, I No.175,401. Patented March as; '1876.
11%6: J g 1 :ur om UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE EDWIN r. WILLIAMS, or BALD MOUNTAIN, COLORADO TERRITORY.
IMPROVEMENT IN FRICTION-CLUTCHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 75,401, dated March 28, 1876 application filed March 13, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWIN F. WILLIAMS,
' ot' Bald Mountain, Gilpin county, Colorado Ten, have invented a new and Improved Friction Clutch, of which the following is aspecification The invention consists of brakes which are drawn against the face of a disk-wheel by wedges moved by the sliding head 011 the shaft moved by the levers, the disk and the wedges being of V-shape, or any other approved form best calculated to cause friction.
Figure l is a side elevation of my improved clutch. Fig-:2 is a section taken online 00.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the disk, which is keyed on the shaft B, for stopping it. U represents the brakes for pressing against the face of the disk to stop it. They are connected to the slides 1),
working in radial grooves in the disk E, and being forced in by the wedges F on the sliding hub G, and working in slots in the slides and against the supports H of the disk E.
The brakes are adjustably connected to the slides by bolts I, so as to be shifted along to take up the wear.
