Serial No 306,59 8f This invention relates to a turntable .designed primarily for use in connection with garages and at other places where it is desired to turn a vehicle within a relatively small space. r
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a turntable which is shifted by the vehicle being turned thereby. 1
A further object is to' provide a turntable which can'be coupled to a door of a garage or other structure so that, as the turntable is moved to position to allow a vehicle to enter the garage, the door will be opened. With theforegoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds theinvention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the'figures by characters of reference 1 designates a platform of any desired material sufficiently large to receive and support the four wheels W of a motor vehicle. The front wheels of the'vehicle are adapted to come against stops .2 arranged "on one end portion of the platform. The other end por- "tion of the platform is provided at one side 'With a pivoti3. about whichtheplatform is adapted to'swing. The platform described is adapted to be located adjacent to the door opening 0 of a garage G or other enclosure, When a vehicle is driven'in the direction indicated by the arrow a'in Figure 1,,it will travel on to the platform until its front wheels come 'againstthei' stops '2 and one of the rear or drive wheels becomes seated on the rollers 4.
Rotation of the rear wheel W supported by the rollers 4 is continued at alow speed and this willcause the rollers 4 to revolve in the" direction indicated by the arrow in Figure 'with the'result that they will'travel backwardly ov'er the supporting surface S and cause the platformto swing about the pivot 3. When the platform is brought to the 'posi-'- tion shown in Figure 52 substantially at right angles to the wall in which the opening is located, the movement of the vehicle wheel is stopped.
If desired the platform can be coupled up to a sliding door D used for closing the opening 0. This door can be mounted in any manner desired and may be provided with a weighted cable C or the like for holding it normally shut at which time a latch L will engage a keeper K. Another cable C can be extended from the latch L to a guide pulley P on the door D and thence to another guide pulley P on the wall of the structure at apoint back of the path of movement of the door as shown in Figure-5. From the pulley -P the cable 0 can be extended to one side ofthe platform near the forward end thereof.
n Thus when. the platform is swung from the position shown in Figure 1 to the position shown in'Figure 2 is will pull through the cable C. upon-the latch to disengage thelatch from the keeper K and then pull the door D to open position. This will bring the door to a point where it will be engaged by alatch L5. At the same time the cable C will pull on the Weight A. y
After the platform has been brought to the position shown in Figure 2 and in full lines in Figure 5 the vehicle can be backed ofi of the platform and through the opening 0 into the garage or other enclosure G. By then releasing latch L the door will close under the acvtion of the weight A and this movement will result in the swinging of the platform back 7 to its initial position shown in Figure 1. Ohviously the door can be opened whenever de sired without actuating the platform.
, NVhere a second car is to be. directed into the garage, the same can be positioned with its front left wheel between the flanges 6 and its rear left wheel upon the extension 6 as indicated by broken lines in Figure 1. By turning the front wheel so that it will engage both flanges 6 and then reversing the right rear,

For the purpose of h lding the vehicle properly assembled with the platform a re taining means such as shown in Figures 7, 8 and 9 can be employed. This retaining means is adapted to be used where one of the rear wheels of the vehicle is employed as a means for swinging the platform by direct contact with the supportingsurface under the platform. Referring to Figure 7' the platform 7 is pivotally mounted as at 8, the rear corner portionbeing cut away as indicated at 8 so 7 that when three of the wheels of the vehicle are resting on the platform the right rear wheel-will rest on the surface above which r 1. vThe combination with the platform is located. A retaining rod 9 is extended transversely of a portion of the platform and can be located where it will extend back of the front wheels of the vehicle While resting on the platform. This rod has crank arms 10 at the ends thereof journaled within bearings 11 mounted on the platform and additional crankarms 12 are, extended from the crank arms 10 and carry rollers 13. The crank arms 12 are not located in the same plane withthe crank arms 10 but are offset relative thereto as shown in Figures 8 and 9. \Vhen the vehicle is driven on to this platform the front wheels will pass over the rod 9, swinging it downwardly on to the platform as shown in Figure 9. This will also. lift the rollers 13 as shown in said figure. After the wheelha-s passed over the rod 9the rollers 13, acting-as weights, will-swing the rod upthe vehicle is to pass, the rollers13 will drop z into recesses 14 provided in the surface S. Thus further-movement oftthe wheel will result in the rearward travel of the vehicle off of the platform because the rod 9 can no longer retainthe vehicle. 7 The means shown and described foroperrating the door can be varied at will, it being understood that the mechanism employed can suit any conditions present. While theplatform is particularly useful in small spaces where a vehicle cannot ordinarily beturned, it can be used under other conditions such as in v excavation projects. Obviously various modifications of the platformstructure can be made within the scope 0f, the claims.
What is claimed is: V

pivot by actuation of one of the rear/wheels of said vehicle, and meansoperated by the-1 platform while moving about its pivot for opening the door. I p p 2. A turntable-including a platform pivotally mounted at one side of one endthereof, a stop device on the other end portion of the platform, a motor driven vehicle engag ing the stop device and having one of its drlve wheels supported on the pi-votedportion of the platform, the 'other drive wheel of the vehicle constituting means for swinging the platform about the pivot, a movable door, and means actuated by the platform for shifting the door to open position.

A turntable. including a platform 'piv otally mounted at one side of one end thereof, a stop device on the other end portion of the platform, a motor driven vehicle engaging the stop device and having one of its drive Wheels supported on the pivoted portion of the platform, the other drive wheel of the vehicle constituting means for swinging the platform about the pivot, vehicle retaining means movably mounted on the platform and means released by the arrival of the platform at point of delivery, for releas-' ing the retaining means from holding posi- 4 tlon.
