This invention relates to grinding `wheels.
and means for mounting the same. The object being to provide a grinding wheel for general purposes and a mount therefor whereby work can be passed entirely across the outer face of said wheel when ink operation. Said mount having means whereby the wheel may be accurately centered thereon and quickly removed when desired.
Features of the invention are present first, in providing the grinding wheel with side depressions having flaring or beveled side walls the depressions in the outer face or side O' the wheel being preferably of a depth greater than that in the opposite face.
Further features of the invention arek found in an arborv having a conical shoulder and an extended vcircularflange and cheek pieces, plates or disks having flared peripheral edges and inwardly converging central portions providing conical sockets or chambers teiminating in short sleeves bearing on said ar or.
The outer end of the arbor terminates within the plane of the outer face of the wheel and is provided with short spiral grooves on which a nut, having a conical inner face and a circular flange, is threaded, said nut having wings or projections by which it may be loosis to be removed.l
The invention possesses other advantageous features, which, with the'foregoing will be set forth in the following description and it will be understood that I do not limit my-v self to the construction shown as I may ladopt many variations within the scope of the invention claimed.

To facilitate the vremoval of the nut by backing up on the threads, I provide it with wings1 lugs or projections 30. against which a hammer or other tool may be tapped lightly to start the backward movement.
It will be noted that the spiral grooves eX- f tion of spiral of the grooves being in the direction of rotation of the wheel, so' that the nut is constantlyj ammed down into clamping*k relation with the parts.
The nut 27 has also formed therewith a circumferential flange 31, corresponding to the flange 17 on the arbor shoulder 16, which flanges normally bear against the plates 19 outwardly of the conical chambers 24 and 25 when the parts are assembled. Adjustments can be made by placing shim rings or pieces back ofthe said flanges as will be understood.
Having thus described my invention, what Ivclaim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A grinding wheel having a central bore and recesses at its opposite sides, the recesses having flat parallel bottoms and outwardly flaring straight circumferential Walls, in conibination with means for mounting said wheel, comprising companion cheek plates each having a straight peripheral flaring flange to intimately engage the flaring wall of its corresponding recess, a flat body portion, a conical socket having a central opening and Y a unitary inwardly directed sleeve, the conical socket and `sleeve of each cheek plate extending within the wheel bore at both ends thereof, an arbor having a conical shoulder to engage the socket of one cheek plate and a nut having a conical shoulder to engage the socket of the opposite cheek plate for clamping the said plates to center and support said wheel.
\ 2. A grinding wheel having a central bore and opposite circular depressions provided With outwardly flaring straight circumferential walls, in combination with cheek plates shaped tointimately engage said walls and having conical sockets with central openings and unitary sleeves projecting inwardly from either end of said bore, an arbor and a clamping nut, each having a conical portion to fit said sockets and an extended circumferential flange bearing against the bottom of the recesses at the edge of said bore as shown and described.
