Description

J. T. BAGGS.
CIRCULAR SAWING-MACHINE.
No.175,3Z3. Patented March 28,1876.
N. PETERS. PHOTOIJTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON, D C
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JAMES T. BAGGS, OF BBIDGEPORT, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CIRCULAR SAWlNG MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,323, dated March 28, 1876; application filed October 23, 1875.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, JAMES T. BAGGS, of Bridgeport, in the county Belmont and State of Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Oircular Sawing Machines, of which the following is a specification:
This invention consists of an improved arrangement of contrivances for automatically adjusting the tilting-table laterally at the same time and by the same operation that it is tilted, the lateral adjustment being to shift the saw-slit so as to compensate for the misplacement of it relatively to the saws, caused by the tilting. The invention also consists of a novel contrivance of the apparatus for adjusting a couple of saws on an A-shaped frame, whereby both saws may be adjusted simultaneously, or either independently of the other.
Figure one is an end elevation of my improved machine, and Fig. 2 is partly a side elevation and partly a sectional elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
The tilting table is pivoted at B to the top of the upright arms 0, the part A being permanently attached to the bearers D, and the part E being connected so as to slide toward and from part A, between which and said part E is the slit for the saws. The arms 0 are pivoted to the frame of the machine at F, below which they extend nearly to the floor, and terminate in a toothed segment, G, gearing with a segment, H, both of which segments are mounted on a shaft, I, extending through the machine from end to end, so that they turn exactly alike. One of said segments has an arm, J, to the free end of which the rod K, which hangs from the table, is coupled by a stud and screw, L, contrived to shift up and down on the rod to vary the lateral adjustment of the table as may be required, the said lateral adjustment being by this contrivance caused by the motion imparted to the upright arms 0 by the rod when it is raised or lowered by the tilting-table. The contrivance for shifting the saws M up and down the A- shaped frame 0, together or independently, consists of one of the wheels P, mounted on a tube, R, which turns freely on the shaft S, and has a square end to clutch with the hub T of the crank U, which also clutches with shaft S by the pin V, said hub being so that it can engage either independently of the other, and also being so that it will engage both when held in an intermediate position by a setscrew, W.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with the table and the oscillating segmental table-supporting arms 0, of the wheels H, shaft I, arm J, and the adjustable connecting-rod K, substantially as specified.
2. The crank-hub T, arranged to clutch with the tube R and the shaft S, independently of each other, and also with both *together, substantially in the manner described.
