The invention relates to mixing bowls of that type used by dentists in the mixing of plastic compounds and the invention consists in the novel construction as hereinafter set forth.

In the present state of the art mixing bowls of the use above described havebeen con structed, the bowl proper being formed of flexible rubber and having a rigid cap on which is mounted mechanism for operating 7 the mixing blade. It is usual, however, to
arrange this mechanism on a handle construction extending upward a considerable distance above the top of the bowl. My improvement consists in a construction where the mechanism for rotating the mixing blades is arranged in a plane parallel to the top of the bowl and in a recess within the cap or cover for the bowl.- This forms a much more compact and simplified construction and one in which the center of gravity is much lower to render the bowl more sta ble when resting upon a table.
In detail, A is the bowl of usual construction formed of flexible rubber, B is a cap or cover for the bowl which has a flaring flange C and a radially outwardly extending flange D respectively for flttingwithin and over the upper edge of the bowl, E is a mixer blade mounted on the under side of the cover 13 5 and of a contour corresponding substantially to that of the cross section of the bowl. This blade is attached to a rotary shaft F which extends through a bearing G formed by a plate or block on the upper side of the cover and H is a pinion mounted on the upper end of said shaft above the bearing G. The block or hearing G is secured to the cover by riveting or other suitable securing means as indicated at I and extends laterally from one 4 side to the flange C. J is a pivot for a gear wheel K intermeshing with the pinion H. The pivot J is preferably formed by a shoulder screw engaging a threaded aperture in the block G and having a head for retaining the gear wheel K. L is a crank handle se- 5 cured to the gear wheel K by screws M and being provided at its free end with a swivel handle N With the construction as described it will be noted that the gearing is arranged within 5 the recess inthe cover formed by the flarlng flange C and the crank handle L is in a plane but slightly above the upper edge of the bowl. This makes a very compact arrangement and as the center of gravity is low, there is no danger of the bowl tipping over. The construction is also one which is very convenient for operation. The operator can grasp the bowl in one hand and turn the crank handle with the other. a
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a mixing bowl comprising a flexible bowl proper having a flaring mouth, a rigid cover forming a re-enforcement for said bowl and having a flaring portion for fitting within said mouth, a mixing blade beneathv said cover of a contour substantially corresponding to that of the inner wall of the bowl, a shaft on which said blade is mounted projecting upward through said cover, a crank handle eccentric to said shaft and a step-up gearing from said crank handle to said shaft arranged parallel to the plane of said cover and within the recess formed by said flaring flange.
2. A mixing bowl comprising a flexible bowl proper having a flaring mouth, a rigid cover provided with a flaring flange for fitting within said mouth terminating in a radially outwardly extending flange fitting over the upper edge of the bowl,said cover forming a reenforcement for the bowl, a mixing blade beneath said cover and of a contour approximately corresponding to that of the inner wall of the ball, a shaft on which said blade is mounted extending through said cover in the axis of said bowl, a block secured to said cover forming a bearing'for said shaft, a crank handle eccentric to said shaft and a step-up gearing for communicating motion from said crank handle to said shaft, said gearing being arranged parallel to said block and within the recesses formed by the flaring flange of said bowl.
