This invention relates to furniture which may be normally used as a table and when desired also used as an ironing board, having parts coacting so that the single article will take the place of two and thus conduce to compactness.
It is further aimed to provide a novel construction wherein the ironing board normally constitutes a leaf of the table, and said leaf s is adapted to be elevated and supported above the level of the table top proper and to be equipped if desired with an extension.
Additional objects and advantages will be in part pointed out and otherwise become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying' drawings illustrating an operative embodiment.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a plan View showing the improved device, one of the side leaves being extendedand the device being partly broken away to disclose details,
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken through the complete article along the plane of line 22 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is'a plan View of the device in condition for use as an ironing board,
Figure 4; is a sectional view taken on the line H of Figure 3,
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4,
Figure 6 is a sectional View taken on the line 66 of Figure 1,
Figure 7 is a sectional View taken on the line 77 of Figure 8,
Figure 8-is a sectional view taken on the line 8-8 of Figure 2,
Figure 9 is a sectional view taken on the line 99 of Figure 1,-and
Figure 10 is a sectional View taken on the line 10-1O of Figure 5.
Referring specifically to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, the device comprises a rectangular frame 10 consisting of similar side members and end members 12 and 13, respectively, the latter having its top in a lower plane than the former. At the corners of the frame 10, four legs 14 are suitably secured v 4 form preferred.

in place. The particular frame and leg construction forms no part of the present invention and will accordingly not be described specifically, it preferably however being of knock-down construction whereby the legs may be removed and all of the parts compactly folded for transportation. Fastened to the upper edges of each side member is a relatively narrow table leaf 15 between which a leaf 16 is normally disposed seas to constitute both a table leaf and also the inainelement of an ironing board as will be laterdescribed.
i The leaf lfiandextension 25 have recesses '90 28 and 29 in their under surfaces which are adapted to aline when extension 25 is 6X- tended as shown in Figure l so that a slide 30, which is normally disposed in the cabinet 28, may be pushed to the left as shown in Figures sand 5, to underlap and supportthe extension 25. The slide 30 is held against downward displacement by reason of the fact that hinges 2Gextend partly over the cavity 28 as shown in Figure 5 and in addition, cleats 31 are faswill be noted that it is in a plane above that of the leaves 15. In that position, the board or panel 16 is engaged by side supports 32 which have interfitting engagement with the board 16'since pins 33 on the supports 32 extend into recesses or sockets 34 in the under sur face of leaf 16.
As a result of the construction described, 7
it will be seen that the panel or leaf 16 noran ironing board, said means comprising supports, spring hinges urgingthem to supporting position, and means to normally maintain ADELBERT BRAGG mally serves as a panel of the table top, that is When in the position shown in Figures 1,
' 2 and 6. When the leaf 16 is to be used as an ironingboard, it is first raised at the end having the extension 25, and the extension 25 moved to extended position and secured therein by operation of the slide 30, after which, the catch 38 is depressed to release hook 37, whereupon the spring hinges 36 move the support 32 upwardly tothe position shown in Figures 4 and 7 the pins 33 entering the recesses 34, compensating movement for the other end of the leaf 16 being'provided by the slide 21. V I
Various changes ma be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the. invention.
I claim as my invention Y 1. A table having a frame, a plurality of leaves thereon, a slide in a vertical guide Way on said frame connected to one of the leaves to permit the latter to be elevated, and normally retracted means to support the said one leaf in the elevated position so that it may serve as an ironing board.
2. A table having a frame, a plurality of leaves thereon, a slide in a vertical guide way on said frame connected to one of the leaves to permit the latter to be elevated, normally retracted means to support the said one leaf in the elevated position so that it may serve as
