The main objects of this invention are to provide improved means for the light cover shield to a seat end; to provide a shield attaching means which requires but one bolt; and to provide an improved construction of seat end which permits the grounding of the electric light conduit in order to conform to the rules governing electric installations in large cities.

An illustrative embodiment of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view in perspective of the inner side of the seat end shown in Fig. 1.

Heretofore in the construction of theatre seat ends, the shield for the electric light has ordinarily been secured to the seat end by a pair of bolts or screws positioned one at each side of the shield. By such construction the shield depended solely upon the bolts for being held in position and when it was necessary to remove the shield for servicing the light, the operation was more or less of an awkward one.

In my improved construction, the shield is embraced at its opposite sides by shoulders and at its lower end by a lug which also acts to some extent as a hinge. One bolt or screw only is provided and is positioned at the top end of the shield so that the servicing of the light is a very simple and readily accomplished operation.

In the construction shown in the drawings, a theatre seat 1 is provided with a cast iron end standard 2 having a depressed center panel portion 3, which is bounded along its vertical edges by protruding shoulders a and 5. The upper end of the panel portion 3 is further depressed to form a recess 6 for receiving and housing an electric light 7 mounted in a vertical position on a horizontally disposed bracket 8.

- A portion of the recess wall is abruptly depressed to provide a horizontal wall 9 which has a vertically disposed opening therein that is threaded to receive an electric wire conduit tting 10. In the construction shown, this fitting is'shown as being the type to receive a flexible armored cable 11, but in case pipe is used, a short nipple thereof may be threaded into this opening. In either instance the construction is such as to provide a ground connection for the wire conduit.

Means are provided for detachably securing the shield 12 to the seat end, and comprise an inwardly extending lug 13 integrally formed at the lower extremity of the shield, which is adapted to extend through an aperture 14 in the panel portion 3, located adjacent the lower end of the recess 6. The aperture 14 is of substantially the same size and shape as the cross sectional size of the lug 13, and the inner end of the lug has a depending toe 15 thereon which bears against the inner wall of the panel 3. Thelug 13 and toe 15 cooperate with a bolt 16 which passes through the extreme upper end of the shield 12, at the medialpoint thereof, and through the seat end, to hold the shield securely in place between the

When it is desired to remove the shield 12 for servicing the light 7, the bolt 16 is first removed and the upper end of the shield swung outwardly and downwardly in an arc until the toe 15 is in substantially axial alignment with the aperture 14, at which time the lug and toe are withdrawn.

By reversing the foregoing operations, the assembly is accomplished. It will be seen that by this construction, the weight of the shield does not rest upon bolts or screws but is carried by the lug 13, and sidewise dis placement of the shield is prevented by the

shoulders

4 and 5.

Although but one specific embodiment of this invention has been herein shown and described, it will be understood that numerous details of the construction shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spiritof this invention as defined'by the following claims.

I claim:

1.
