Fatcnted Mar. 18, 1930 PATENT OFFICE KURT ZBRIEL, OI BROOKLYN, NEW YORK GOMMUTATOR CLEANSER No Drawing.
The object of my invention is the production of a composition of matter adapted for use in the cleansing of commutators on electric motors or armatures of dynamos of all the usual types, which as is well known, must be kept in a cleanly condition and free from metal dust to prevent sparking of the motor,
backfiring and short circuiting, together with a marked reduction in the wear of the commutator and the brushes.
In the past it has been the usual practice to effect the said necessary cleansing either by the use of a fine abrasive or by finely polishing or grinding off the exposed surfaces of the brushes and commutator, but these metli= ods have neither of them been completely efficient and have involved the loss of much time and labor.
It is also an important feature that this composition should contain no corrosive or erosive ingredients to prevent injury to the treated parts. i
This composition is especially eflicienton the type of commutators consisting of a ring ofcopper segmentsinsulated from one another by non-conducting strips, the segments being connected electrically with the conductors in any of the usual manners.
In addition to being a most efficient cleanser, this composition after application is fireproof, is very easy to apply, costs very little because of the small quantity needed for each application, and can be manufactured and sold to the consumer ata reasonable figure.
The composition consists of a mixture of oleic acid, yellow paraffin oil, and amyl acetate. In the preparation of the mixture I.

when the proportions are varied withinthe following limits Application filed April 21, 1928. Serial No. 271,980.
In the preparation the paraffin oil is mixed with the amyl acetate, and the oleic acid is warmed until it is clear, after which the ingredients are blended.
In use it has been found advisable to apply a clean piece of dry cloth to the surface running commutator to remove as much as possible of the surface dirt. A cloth is then wet with a few drops of this composition and applied to the commutator to thoroughly cleanse it and leave it with a brilliant glossy surface. In a few days the application should be repeated as the composition is absorbed gradually by the commutator.
I claim A commutator cleansing composition comprising approximately equal parts of oleic acid and paraflin oil with approximately ten per cent of amyl acetate.
In testimony whereof Ihave hereunto affixed my signature.
KURT BRIEL.
