Description

A J. F. HESS. EAVES TROUGH RANGERS. No.175,092.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB F. HESS, OF MASSILLON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN EAVES-TROUGH HANGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,092, dated March 21, 1876; application tiled March 4, 1876.
To all whom it mag/,concern Be it known that I, J AGOB F. HESS, of Massillon, in the county of Stark and State ot' Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faves-Trough Hangers and that the following is a full, clear, and exact specification thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the said invention. v
My invention relates to an improved construction of cross-har for eaves-trough hangers, by which the operation of soldering said hars in the trough is facilitated and cheap ened 5 also, to an improved connection for the hanger and cross-bar, all of which is hereinafter fully shown.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a view showing the application of my improvements. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view ofthe cross- -bar and the hanger-connection.
A is a metallic eaves-trough, made in the ordinary curved manner, with stift'ening-roll on one edge.
' The cross-har B is made of proper length to iit closelybetween the sides of the trough A, and at its ends are formed depressions b b, which form with the sides. of the trough cavities for receiving the solder by which the bar is secured in the trough, thus avoiding Waste of solder in fastening the bars, and facilitating the operation of soldering.
The cross-bar B has riveted or soldered in it near its center a rivet, D, having an elongated head placed in line with the trough.
The horizontal portion F of the hanger C has the slot D formed in it of proper size to admit the head ofthe rivet D, When tie hanger is in line with the trough, so that 'by placing the hanger over the rivet D, and then turning it into the position shown in drawing, the hanger and cross-har are securely united,
the elongated form of' rivet-head pressing the l portion F down rmly on the cross-bar B, while the elongated slot E admits of the alignment oi the trough after the hangers have been nailed on the roof.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The cross-bar B, made with end depressions b b, in combination with the eaves-trough A, substantially as and for the purpose specitied.
2. The cross-bar B, with end depressions b b and elongated center rivet D, in combination with the hanger G, having the elongated slot E therein, the several parts being arranged suhstantially as and for the purpose specied.
As evidence of the foregoing, Witness my hand this 24th day of January, A. D. 1876.
J AOOB F. HESS.
