The catch is mounted on a bracket, 0, secured upon the frame or tongue of the machine,or the bracket may form part of the frame or tongue, and vibrates on a pivot-pin, 0. By connecting thelink d to the catch ab'ove .instead of below the fulcrum, it is obviousthat "the actionof the lever would be reversed that is, that it would then have to .be'drawn backward instead of being shoved forward.
This device obviously possesses great advantages over the spring-catches heretofore used, with no means of retracting the catch except to 'take hold of it directly by the fingers of the operator, as by myinvention the operator, in his seat on the machine, is enabled to release the finger-beam fromthe catch by either foot, or by both feet, by his hand alone, or by both hand and foot together.
