My invention relates to electrical connecters, particularly connecters commonly known as potheads.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a practical, effective and advantageous construction of electrical connecter.
Another object of the invention is to provide an efiective and advantageous construction for connecting the contact members of the device.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a side elevation 01"- an electrical connecting device or pothead embodying my present invention;

Referring to the drawings I show a single conductor pothead, although it will be understood that the invention may be applied to other types.
This device comprises a tubular member 1 and a cap 2 adapted to fit removably on top of the member 1. Members 1 and 2 are preferably made of insulating material, such as porcelain. The member 1 receives a cable 3 which enters an opening in the bottom of said member and extends up in the same to or near the top thereof, where its conductor 4 is connected witha socket member 5, preterably by being soldered thereto. The socket member has a socket portion 5 which is interiorly screw threaded and into it is fitted a collar 10 which is exteriorly threaded to screw into and out of the socket 5 This collar 10 is also interiorly screw threaded to receive the threaded end 11 of the cap contact member 9. The member 10 also has an outwardly projecting flange 12 and this is adapted to fit against a metal collar 13 held in position in the upper end of the tubular member 1, as by cement 14 The flange CONNECTER 1922. 12 is preferably provided with a series of recesses 15, into which a wrench may be inserted to turn said member 10. The collar 13 is provided with inwardly extending projections 17 (Fig. 4) and the socket 5 with outwardly extending projections 16 adapted to cooperate with the inwardly extending projections 17.
In using the device the cable is run into the lower end of the insulating member 1 and then secured as by soldering to the contact socket 5. The overhead wire 7 is passed through the cap 2 and its conductor secured as by soldering to the contact member 9. The cap 2 is then slipped back along the conductor 7, so that access may readily be had to the contact member 9 attached to the wire 7. The threaded collar 10 is screwed into the socket 5 and the threaded end 11 of member 9 is screwed into the threaded bore of said member 10. The member 11 is screwed in to such an extent that its lower end contacts with the bottom of the socket 5. By means of a wrench or tool used in apertures 15 the collar 10 is then given an additional turn so that it will force the lower end of the contact member 11 firmly and tightly against the bottom socket 5. The screw threads on member 11 and on outside of 10 are preferably of reverse character, thread on member 11, for example, being left handed and thread on exterior of member 10 being right handed. Thus turning member 10 to screw it down in socket 5 will also screw member 11 down in member 10, thereby making tight mechanical fit and good electrical contact. Projections 16 on member 5 and 17 on collar 13 limit movement of member 5 to a quarter turn. The firmly connected contact devices are held in proper position in the tubular insulator or member 1 by screws 18-18 passing through flange 12 of member 10 and into collar 13. The cap 2 may then be slid down along conductor 7 and fitted on top of member 1.
Compound may be poured into the device through a side opening formed in a side extension 19 (Fig. 1). This opening is provided with a plug 20 having a nut 21 by which the plug 20 may be screwed into and out of the openin When the compound is to be teriorl poured, a tube or pipe 22 is used, the lower end being inserted into the opening and the upper end extending up above the top of the tubular member 1. In this way compound, although entering near the bottom of the tubular member 1, will rise to the top of the same. After the com ound is in position and to some extent hard ienedflzhe pipe 22 may be removed and the plug 20 again screwed into position.
It will be understood that changes and modifications ma be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim is:
1. The combination with plug and socket members of a sleeve arranged to be interposed between said members, said sleeve being exteriorly threaded and the socket member being interiorly threaded to cooperate with the exterior of the sleeve, and said sleeve being also provided with a threaded bore and the plug member having a corres ondingly threaded portion to cooperate wit said bore, and said plug member being adapted to extend down to and make contact with the bottom of said socket member.
2. The combination with plug and socket members of a sleeve arranged to be interposed between said members, said sleeve being exteriorly threaded and the socket member being interiorly threaded to cooperate with the. exterior of the sleeve, and said sleeve also provided with a threaded bore and the plug member having a correspondingly threaded portion. to cooperate with said bore, and said plug member being adapted to extend down to and make contact with the bottom of said socket member, and a collar surrounding said socket member for holding said devices in osition.

4. The combination with plu and socket members of a sleeve arranged to interposed between said members, said sleeve being exthreaded and the socket member being interiorly threaded to cooperate with the exterior of the sleeve, and said sleeve being also provided with a threaded bore and the plug member having a corerspondingly threaded portion to cooperate with said bore, and said plug member being adapted to extend down to and make contact with the bottom of said socket member, and a collar surrounding said socket member for holding the same in position, said sleeve being provided with a projecting flange adapted to rest upon said surrounding collar, there being a space between said collar and said socket and the collar being provided with inwardly extending projections and the socket with outwardly extending projections.
5. In a pothead the combination wlth plug and socket members of a sleeve arranged to be interposed between said members, said sleeve bein exteriorly threaded and the socket mem er being interiorly threaded to cooperate with the exterior of the sleeve, and said sleeve being also provided with a threaded bore and the plu member having a correspondin 1y threa ed portion to cooperate with said re, and said plug member being adapted to extend down to and make contact with the bottom of said socket member, and means for holding said devices in position in the pothead.
6. The combination with plug and socket members of a sleeve arranged to be intersed between said members, said sleeve being exteriorly threaded and the socket member being interiorly threaded to cooperate with the exterior of the sleeve, and said sleeve being also provided with a threaded bore and the plug member having a correspondingly threaded portion to cooperate with said bore, and said plug member being adapted to extend down to and make contact with the bottom of said socket member, and a collar surrounding said socket member for holding said devices in position, and means for securing said intermediate member to said collar.
7. The combination with plug and socket members, of a sleeve arranged to be interposed between said members, said sleeve being exteriorly threaded and the socket memher being interiorly threaded to cooperate with the exterior of the sleeve, and said sleeve being also provided with a threaded bore and the plug member having a correspondingly threaded portion to cooperate with said bore, and said plug member being adapted to extend down to and make contact with the bottom of said socket member, and a collar surrounding said socket member for holding said devices in position, and means for securing said intermediate member to said collar, said means comprising screws passing through said intermediate member and into said collar.

being also provided with a threaded bore and the plug member having a correspondingly threaded portion to cooperate with said bore, and said plug member being adapted to extend down to and make contact with the bottom of said socket member, and a collar surrounding said socket member for holding said devices in position, said collar being secured to the pothead.
9. The combination with plug and socket members of a sleeve arranged to be interposed between said members, said sleeve being exteriorly threaded and the socket member being interiorly threaded to cooperate with the exterior of the sleeve, and said sleeve being also provided with a threaded bore and the plug member having a correspondingly threaded portion to cooperate with said bore, and said plug member being adapted toextend down to and make contact with the bottom of said socket member, and a collar surrounding said socket member for holding said devices in position, said collar being secured to the pothead by cementing.
