This invention comprises improvements in means for intermittently'A moving a revolving member and particularly relates to such means for use in machines for moulding pie casings or the like.
According to the present improvements, a revolving member or table is rotated by means of a pin on one revolving member engaging in a slot in the other revolving member and means are combined therewith for holding the member or table at the end of each intermittent movement, which comprise pins on one revolving member which are engaged by a part annular groove 1n the other revolving` member. By these means a somewhat heavy and quickly operated table or member can be stopped and held stationary at the end of each intermittent movement with a minimum of wear or damage to the mechanism. The table which is intermittently revolved is also supported in the improved manner hereinafter described.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a machine constructed according to this invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional plan of the box table, th'e section being taken on line a@ fr of Figure 3, a being the front of the machine.
Figure 3 is a section on line y jz/ of Figure 2. Figure 4 is a section on line a a of Figure 2. Figure 5 is an underside view of the driving disc hereinafter referred to.
yFigure 6 is a plan view of a detail hereinafter referred to, and
Figure 7 is a side view of the machine looking in the direction of arrow B, nigure 1. According to a convenient embodiment of `this invention, the moulding tool 1 is recip e rocated through the medium of a driving shaft 32 carrying the fly wheel 25 which is geared to an electric motor 2 or any other convenient source of power. The moulding or other tool is operated by the said driving crank shaft 32 so that the moulding tool is operated every rotation. The electric motor 2 drives a shaft 26 by means of chain transmission 27, and such shaft transmits the drive to the said driving shaft carrying the flywheel 25 through the medium of worm 28 and worm wheel 29. A stationary box table 3 is carried by the vmachine frame, and such box table carries a revolving table 4. This revolving table has a central spindle 5 which passes through an inwardly directed boss 8 carried by the top wall of the box table 3, and the end of this 'spindle 5located in the box table 3 carries a cast metal or other disc 6. The underside of the revolving table 4 is supported on spring pressed members or rollers 7 let into the top surface of the box table 3, such rollers 7 holding the revolving table 4 from the box table and 'maintaining the said cast metal disc 6 against, preferably, ball bearings located between such disc and the end of the said inwardly directed boss 8, through which the said revolving table spindie passes. Each said spring pressed roller is conveniently mounted in a bifurcated member 9 which is slidably mounted in a tubular member 10 fixed in the top surface of the box table 3, a spiral spring 11 being located between the inner end of this tubular member and the bifurcated member. An annular groove is formed in -the' underside of the tabl; 4 for receiving the spring pressed rollers The revolving table 4 may, for-instance, be adapted to receive six moulds or tins 12, and is therefore required to be moved one sixth of a revolution for each stroke of the moulding tool 1. For this purpose six radial slots 13 are formed in the cast metal disc 6, and a pin or roller 14 on another revolving driving member 15 is adapted to ent-er one slot 13 and move the table 4 round 'one sixth of a revolution before leaving this slot 13. This latter revolving driving member 15 is carried on a spindle 16' mounted in an inwardly depending boss 17 in the box table 3, and comprises an arm 18 passing from one side of the spindle, the sides of which arm curve outwardly to form a sector 19 on the other side of the spindle. The driving pin or roller 14 is carried by the top surface of the said arm 18, and a groove 20 is formed in the said sector also on the top surface. Six pins or rollers 21 are mounted on the underside of the said cast metal member 6 intermediate the radial slots 13. When the revolving driving member 15 is rotated, the driving pin 14 engages a radial slot 13 and moves the cast metal disc 6 one sixth of a revolution. As the pin 14 is leaving the slot 13 one of the said pins 21, intermediate the radial groove 13, enters the groove 2O in the sector portion 19 of this driving revolving member 15, and therefore locks the revolving table l against further movement. As the groove 2O in this sector leaves the pin 21, the driving pin 14 enters the next succeeding radial slot 13. It will therefore Y be seen that the table 4 can only be moved an exact amount and is positively locked against rotation during the moulding operation and until the revolving table is again to be rotated. The driving member 15 is conveniently driven through the medium of a horizontal shaft 22 located in the box table 3 which is driven by chain 30, and chain wheel 31 from the shaft 26. vThe said horizontal shaftQQ Jfurther transmits the drive by means of a Worm 23 and a Worm Wheel 24. The box table 3 formsan oil box, thus providing for the mechanism to run in an oil bath. The bottom of the box table may form the top of the pedestal 27.
