WILLIAM T. MERSEREAU, OF ORANGE, JERSEY,
IMPROVEMENT IN STAlR-RODS.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,919, dated March 21, 1876; application filed January 13, 1876.
To all whom tt may concern Beit known that I, WILLIAM T. MERSEREAU, of Orange, Essex county, New Jersey', have invented, made, and applied to use Improvementsrin the Construction of Stairltods'; and that the following is a full, clear, and correct description of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making 4 part ot' this specification, and to the letters of The nature of the present invention consists in the construction of a stair-rod, as more fully hereinafter set forth and definitely claimed, the object of the invention being the construction of a stair-rod possessing great strength, and one presenting a highly-finished appearance. f
To enable those skilled in the arts to make aud use my invention, I will describe the same.
A shows a plate of iron, or any suitable material, and B is a plate of brass or any suitable material drawn Vover the same, and forming the face or front of the stair-rod. After the rod has been thus formed a plate of brass or other suitable material, C, is drawn or forced into the rodubehind the plate of iron or suitable material A, thus giving to the interior of the rod as highly nished an appear- A ance as the face.
,Astair-rod thus formed will be found to possess great strength, and as the iron or suitable material employed to form, so to speak, the interior of the rod, can be afforded at a low cost, the cost of the rod is not increased, while a better and superior style of rod results. I l
Having now set forth my invention, what I claim as new is- A stair-rod made vby inclosing a plate of iron or other suitable material between two thicknesses of brass, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
