The tail of the dog is spring pressed as? at 37 to normally hold the nose of the same inoperative position against the ratchet wheel; The dog imparts retrograde movement to the ratchet wheel and-stub shaft to turn the feed wheels in a clock-wise'direction and preventsretrograde movement of the same. In practice, the cutting attachment is applied to a sewing machine by substitiiting'the same for the front shuttle slide and; is opa predetermined distance on the downward stroke of the needle bar, andidling upon the upstroke thereof. It will therefore be seen that an operator need only to guide the-material past the scissorsafter starting the sew}, ing machine in operation, which will be found a great saving in time and labor.;
