While the deviceof my inyentionisparticularly adapted for 11'sewith apail having" such beaded or otherwise thickened upper edge, itmay be employed with liquid containers of other forms including wooden buckets, tubs, eta, Whether or not provided with a beaded rim.
The Wringer comprises a body,'receptacle [or cup-like device 1 preferably in the form of a truncated conesubstantially' as illustrated, being open at its, upperv and larger end andhaving at its smaller end a bottom 2 which desirably is flat or'at least not projected downwardlybeyond the side walls of the body, so that the latter may stand flat upon its own base when notin use. The 'Wringer body maybe formed oflany-suitable sheet material of sufficient'strength such, for example, as galvanized iron or other sheet metal. It may be of various dimensions and proporhalf that of said pail orfvesseh so' thatthe WVIIIIgGI may be supported above and outof contact with a required quantity of liquid below it, The'downward-and inwardHin} body'l is'preferably in conformity with that 'of'the' side Walls of the pail Withwhich it is I i'g. 1 is-a planviewof a 'p'ailv o'r similar ;tob'e' employed. V
. liquid container having'awringer' embody mop and is providedwith' meanswhereby the mop head when pressed' down Wi'tl1lI1 the wringer or twisted Withi1iit will have any e'xeess liquid wrung out it'romitand returned to the supply in *the' pailp For this f'zontal rows of vertically elongated slotsi-fi, etc.,,the individual slots inia' given row-be dranged in staggered or intermediaterelation 1 'orliquid vesselwith which'it is to be used,
and a height not substantially exceeding oneclination of the side-'wallsfof the'w'ringer 1 The described wringer body or 'recept-aclelv ls'adapted to receivethe absorbenthea'd ofa v purpose'I haveillustrated a plurality of horie ingspaced circumferentiall-y of the recepta ole, andthe slots in the respectlverows an withrespect to each other. "Said slots: may
be of anydesired .form but are' preferably :formed with rounded ends 74 substantially r *asillustrated, to avoid catchingtor unneces 'sary wear upon the mop f'head.* For similar r-reasons the edges 5 ofthe slots desirably are a slightly turned outward'lyasillustrated in,
-Fig. 5,*leaving the inner"surfac'e ofthe re- -oeptacle entirely smooth; y In the bottom 3 wall 2 are provided'th'e additional perform tions 6, 6, em, which also" are preferably formed in'a manner afiording a' smooth inner face at the. wringer bottom.
- For holding the wringerinoperat'ing position upon the pail sidewall I have provided novel clamping meanswhich as herein shown integrally formed from a single piece {of metalstock. ,Beferring now more-particullarly to Figs'y3 and 4, but asalso seen inFig.
2 ,said means'herein comprises'a clamp, plate or hook-likeelement indicated as aQwholeat 7 .f It includes an upper or attaching portion '8 shaped to lie fiatwise againsttheouter face of'th'e wringer body near its top, "andwhich tions but desirably has 'amaximum diameter o is rigidly-secured in" Sai d pQ i 13 I suitable manner as by means of rivets, spot welding, or otherwise, as indicated at 9, 9.
Below said attaching portion 8 the clamp is formed with an out-turned portion or shoulder 10 adapt-ed to seat upon the upper sur face of the bead or rim R of the pail. The clamp is. downwardly and inwardly extended below said shoulder to form a tailor spring clamping portion 11, having its lower extremity turned slightly outwardly, as indicated at 12. The described clamp is formed ofa comparatively heavy, strong metal but sufliciently springy to permit the wringer body to be passed down along the inner surface of the pail side wall while the clamp may be sprung downover the pail rim and along and in clamping contact with the outer face of the ail. 7 'In order still more firmly to attach the 'wringer to the pail the clamp is formed with a cut-out spring tongue 13, integral with the lower clamp'portionat its bottomnand npwardly; extendingtherefrom. Said tongue is'inturned as at 14 to provide a nub adapted to press against the pail side, and above said nub the tongue 13 is reversely and outwardly curved, as'at 15. The clamp proper and the tongue 13 are so proportioned and arranged that-as the receptacle is passed downwardly over the pail side said-tonguewill first :be
sprung outwardly by the pail rimR, but-as soon as the nub 14: of the tongue has passed below said rim the tongue will snap back into engagement-with the pail side, bringing its out-turned portion 15 into clamping contact -with' the under portion of the pail rim. In
this manner the' clamp substantially completely encloses the. pail rim, toprevent undesirable rocking movement of the wringer on the pail, while said clamp also has-a plurality of points of engagement with the outer face of the pail below the rim. Accordingly the wringer may be extremely firmly attached to the pail, butsaid attachment is efiected simply by downward pressure of the wringer along the pail side and without further or special manipulation of catches or other devices; but one hand of the user need be employed in soafiixing the wringer. Removal oft-he wringer is equally easy, due to the described construction, and may be accom plished by merely tilting the wringer relatively to the pail with sufficient force tocam the-latch portion 15 of the tongue slightly outwardly, whereupon the entirewringer may bejivithdrawn upwardly and freed from the a1 a It will be noted that the wringer is so proportioned and related to the pail or the like with which itis to be employed that the center of the attached wringer comes within the pail bottom, a vertical line drawn through 1 the wringer axis. meetingv the pail bottom at a; point substantially removed "from the botthere is no tendency to upset the pail unintentionally in the process of wringing out a mop.
My invention is not limited to the particular embodiment shown and described herein, its scope being set forth in the following claims 3 1 1. In a mop-wringer of the twister type having a perforate mop receptacle adapted to be positioned upon-and within a pail or bucket, means for readily releasably securing said receptacle in operating position comprising-a metal plate fixedly attached at its upper portion to the outer face of the mop receptacle, the lower extremity of said plate being outwardly inclined to guide'the pail edge up between the plate and the mop recepand arranged to bear againstthe outer face ofthe pail side, said plate having an upwardly extendingtongueadapted to engage beneath the pail rim firmly to position the mop receptacle but having its upper end outturn'ed whereby said tongue mayabeicammed outwardly by the pail rim torelease'it-for removal of the wringer. V r i 2. A mop wringer particularly for application to theedge ofa pail having a'beaded rim, said 'wringer comprising an open-top mopreceptacle of approximately circular: crosssection and having perforate side and bottom walls, and a resilient clamping element attached on the outer face of said receptacle near its "top, the lower end of said element being outwardlyinclined to guide the pail rim into held engagement beneath the claping element, and said element provided with an upwardly directed tongue for engagement beneath thepail rim, the upper extremity of .said tonguebeing outwardly deflected for tom edge of the pail side wall.
