REFRIGERATED .AGITATING DEVICE Filed April 13, 1929 Patented Feb. 25, 1930 UNITED-STATES PATENT OFFICE,
OLA]? LAiRsEN, F roar ATKINSON, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO THE CREAMERY PACK- 7 AGEMFG. .CO1YIP.ANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION or ILLINOIS REFRIGERATED AG-ITATING DEVICE Application filed April 13, 1929. Serial No. 354,840.
- The invention relates to combined refrigerating and agitating devices for use in liquid storage tanks, more particularly to the arrangement of the agitating blades in the type of'refrigerated agitator illustrated in the is maintained by the device, the cooling being accomplished as the liquid passes the refrigerated drum or body of the device. Storage tanksfor milk are constructed in a variety of shapes and proportionate dimensions, and I have found that different shapes of agitator blades are best suited respectively to differ ent shapesand sizes of tanks. As heretofore used, the blades have been fixed upon the refrigerated drum, thus preventing the adaptation of'any single device to either of several different tanks, and also retarding to some eX- tent the free circulation of the liquid across the entire face of the drum.
in spaced detachable relation thereto. Other objects and advantages will be apparent in the following detailed description ofa pre 'ferred embodiment of the invention.
Referringto the drawings, Fig. 1 is aside view of a refrigerated agitator drum with the agitating blades mounted in accordance with'the invention, a portion of the blades 7 mounting being shown insectionQ Fig. 2 is a front view of the drum and blades. V In the drawings the numeral 1 indicates a'hollow drumadapted to contain in operation a circulating refrigerant. The drum is supported for rotation on a hub 2 adapted to receive a shaft (not shown) and through which the refrigerant circulation conduits enter: the
drum. A detailed description of the construction and operation of, the refrigerated drum being fully set forth and illustrated in the above mentioned cO-pending application, K t s cons dered not necessary to an under- I :2, 5;standing of the present invention to illustrate and'describe such construction herein.
- A stud 3 is secured, preferably by welding to the front face of the agitator drum at its axis of rotation, the constricted outer end 4: of the stud being screw threaded or otherwise adapted for the removable attachment of a hub 5 upon which are fixed radial blades 6. The. blades 6 herein illustrated are but one style of several which may be used tobest advantage in several different types of tanks,
and the mounting herein disclosed enables v V a'hub'detachably secured to said stud, and 'The object of the invention is to provide, in a refrigerated agitator, a refrigerated body or vdrum carrying agitating blades mounted a plurality of radial blades mounted on said hub in spaced relation to the face of said drum.
v radial bladesfrotatable with said drum and positioned in spaced relation thereto, and means positioned axially of said drum and blades for detachably securing said'blades to said drum.
3. Adevice of the class described comprising a rotatable cooling drum, and a plurality of radial blades having detachable mounting on said drum in co-axial spaced relation thereto.
In witness whereof I have hereunto attached my signature. I
OLAF LARSEN.
