PAUKE, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS BRAKING DEVICE 1 Application filed September This invention relates to certain novel improvements in brakingdeviees for different machines such as paper bending and corner cutting and staying machines and has for its 5 principal object the provision of an improved construction of this character which will be highly eflicient in use and economical in manufacture.
Among the salient objects of the invention is to provide a device which will prevent re- 7 bounding or backward movement of the clutch shaft of a machine thereby increasing the efiiciency of the machine. 7
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangements of parts to be here inafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of construction and in which: 7

At the outset it is pointed out that the invention may be associated with any machine which includes an intermittently driven shaft 10 thrown into operation by means of a clutch structure 11 with a driving shaft 12.
In one instance, to carry out the effects of the invention, we mount on the shaft 10 a collar 13 for rotation with the shaft 10. This collar 13 has formed in its surface a tapered notch 14 tapered in the direction opposite the direction of rotation of the shaft as indicated by the arrow15.

turn to the bracket by means of bolts 20. Adjustment of the bracket and plate longitudinally upon the portion 17 is accomplished by means of a set screw 21. A pawl is indicated at 22 and this pawl is adapted to engage the. notch 14 for reasons hereinafter set forth. This pawl 22 is pivotally supported by a head 23 through the medium of a pin 24 and said pawl is yieldably urged into notch engaging position through the medium of a spring 25. This head 23 is formed as an integral part of a plate 26 having formed therein an elongated slot 27 for the passage of a bolt 28 threaded into an opening 29 formed in the bracket 18. 769 The slot and bolt permits the plate to be adjusted relatively of the bracket. As herein pointed out, the shaft 10 is adapted to be intermittently rotated and in paper machines it is essential that the shaft be held against v 5 rebound. In the present instance, at the end of the intermittent rotation of the shaft, the pawl will engage in the notch 1 1 and prevent this rebound.
While we have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carry- .ing our invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. e, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail ourselves of such variation and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described our invention what. we claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
In combination, a supporting frame carrying a rotatable shaft, means for intern'iittently imparting a rotative movement to said; shaft, a collar on said shaft having a notch formed in the periphery thereof, a member including a base member having an elongated slot provided therein, a bolt member extended through said slot and connected to:
said frame whereby to adjustably connect said member to said frame, said member having spaced apart ears formed thereon, a pawl pivotally mounted between said ears, spring means carried by said ears adapted to act on said pawl whereby to urge said pawl toward the periphery of said collar whereby said pawl member is engaged in said notch at the completion of a revolution of said shaft whereby to prevent retroactive movement thereof.
