Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE F. JORDAN, OF ANGOLA, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN NuT-LocKs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [74,733, dated March 14, 1876; application filed l January 15, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE F. JORDAN, of Angola, Steuben county, Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Nut- Lock, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 represents a side view, and Fig.
v2 a vertical transverse section, of my improved nut-lock.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. 4
My invention relates to ,an improved nutlock for rail-joints and other purposes; and it consists of a strap or plate with slots or recesses for the nuts, said plate being secured by washers and keys at the ends.
In the drawing, A represents the screwnuts of a railroad tish-plate or other plates exposed to vibratory strain, and B a strap or plate which extends over the nuts and is slotted or recessed to t the same. The recesses are of greater length than width, to be readily applied to nuts that are at different distances apart from each other.
The nut-binding plate B may be made of any suitable thickness, and is secured in the fish-plate by means of small pieces or washers C ot' iron, that are slotted for bolts and placed under the end nuts, it not being necessary. to have washers on the center bolts.
The Washers C are bent up at right angles and passed through slots of the nutbinding plate B. The bent up end sections of the oft' by a pair of pinchers. f
The keys are arranged at such 'distance from the nuts that they Will not interfere with the working of the wrench in screwing down the nuts.
Ihe nut-lock increases the strength of the rail-joint and saves the labor of tightening up the nuts, being of simple and reliable construction, and readily applied by the trackmen.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patenf- The combination of the bent and slotted washers O, and keys D, With slotted nut-locking plate B, and nuts A, as and for the pur'- pose set forth.
GEO. F. JORDAN. Witnesses:
