Description

NrrED STATES JoHN A. FARE, 0E PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORSET-STEELS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,668, dated March 14, 1876 application filed February 112, 1876.
To all whom Iit may concern:
Beit known that I, JoHN Asn-IE FARB, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Corset- Steels; and I do hereby declare that the fol'- lowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of t-he saine, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part ot' this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked there- Figure l of the drawings is a representation ot' a front view. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional'view of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view.
This invention has relation to'improvements in corset-steels.
The object of the invention is to so secure the clasps and hooks to the steels that they may be readily detached therefrom without ripping the corset, and so that the said steels shall'be prevented from working up or down in their sheaths to the manifest discomfort ot' the wearer. l
rIo this end the invention consists in a corset-steel sheathed in the edge ot' a corset, both the sheath and steel heilig provided with registering spaced pertorations adapted to receive lugs t'orined on the lateral edges ot' a metallic eye, which ln gs are, after being passed through the steel and sheath, ilattened down upon the under side ot' the latter, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
ln the annexed drawings, the, letters A A designate corset-steels of the usual dimen sions and form, which are sheathed in the customary manner in the front edges ot' a pair of corsets. Steel A is designed to receive eyes B, arranged ata suitable distance apart, and steel A hooks C, arranged in a position relative to the said eyes, such that the eyes and hooks shall readily engage with each other and unite the two edges of the corset-sections. Both steels A and A6 and their respective sheaths d are provided with registering-perforations i fi', arranged in sets of two at a suitable distance apart from the top to the bottom thereof, which perforations are adapt ed to receive correspondingly-shaped lugs b, formed on the lateral edges of eyes B and hooks C.
The steels being inserted in their respective the corset has become soiled the fasteningpoints b ofthe hooks and eyes may be turned up with the blade of a knife, and drawn out ot pertorations ifi', thus allowing the steels to be removed from their sheaths inthe corset without ripping the latter.
rIhe fastening-points being passed through the sheath and steels, and heilig flattened on the under side of the former, the latter will be prevented from Working out of the sheaths either up or down, and will thus greatly add to the comfort of the wearer.
Eyes B and hooks C are of sheet metal, and are respectively formed out ot' the blanks B C. (Shown in Figs. 3 and 4.) Blank Bconsists of an oblong body, c, provided with a-n eye, e, in one end, and having upon its lateral edges rectangular spurs b', Which, when bent at right angles to body a, will form the fastening-points b. Blank C is of the general shape of the letter T, and its fastening-points will be formed by bending the -ends b of its lon-ger arm under at right angles to their former position, while the shorter arm j will be bent upward and over to form the hook proper c. v
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is V l. In a corset, the combinatiomwith the steels A A', having perforations t' t', and their respective sheaths, having registering-periorations fi t', the hooks C, and eyes B, having fasteningpoints I) upon their lateral edges, substantially as specified.
` 2. The eye-blank B', consisting of the oblong body a, having a perforation, e, in one end, and projecting lugs b upon its lateral edges, substantially asspecitied.
, 3. TheT-shaped hook-blank C', adapted for use substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above l have hereunto subscribed my name in`the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN ASKIE FARB.
