This invention relates to curtain suspension and actuating means of the kind comprising a base board having rollers to carry a curtain carrier, consisting of a belt or band disposed so that portions thereof move in opposite directions when the belt or band is actuated.

Curtain suspension and actuating means, in accordance with the invention, comprises a base plate, rollers mounted thereon with a curtain carrier consisting of an endless belt or band passing therearound and disposed so that the two lengths cross one another and the lower portions maintained more or less straight, and means to impart motion to said belt or band comprising a rope attached at a point intermediate its ends to one of the upper lengths of the belt or band.

Also in accordance with the invention, the belt or band has hooks fixed on the lower to portions and also other hooks which are movable relatively to such portions.

These and other objects are accomplished by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and in which Figure 1 is an elevational view.

Figures 2 and 3 are elevational views, to a larger scale, of the central and right hand end portions of Figure 1.

Figure 6 is a plan viewof Figure 1.

Referring in greater detail to the drawing the numeral 11 designates a base plate of shape and construction adapted to be secured to the window frame. The base plate will, in practice, he made to certain standard lengths or its construction be such that it can be adapted to litthe window frame to which it will be applied.

The pins 12-12 are mounted on, and towards the end of, the base board 11, and extend outward from one face thereof. Other pins 1a 1a are also mounted on the base board 11 so as to extend outward from the same face of the base board 11 as the pins 12-12.

According to the construction of the base plate 11, the pins 1212, 13 and 14. are either all fixedly mounted thereon, or one of the pins 12 and the pins 1314: are adapted to be fixed in position after the length of the base plate 11 has been adjusted to suit the window frame to which it will be secured.

The pins 131t, whether the base plate be made to a standard length or be adjustable, are positioned on opposite sides of a point midway on the length of the base board 11.

The pins 1212, and 1314 constitute roller ournals and l616 are rollers mounted on the pins 1212; 17 and 18 are rollers mounted on the pins 1314 respectively.

The rollers 16-16, 17 and 18 are grooved, and 19 is an endless belt or band, preferably made of piano wire, mounted on the rollers 1616 so that the two lengths of belt or band cross one another, the two lower portions thus moving in opposite directions.

The two lengths of belt or band are also passed under the rollers 1718, which are positioned so that the portion of the belt or hand between the roller 17 or 18 and the roller 16, at the more distant end of the carrier 11, is, when the carrier is erected in position, more or less horizontal. The hooks 2021 are each fixedly mounted on a lower portion of the belt or band. Other hooks 22 are loosely mounted on the lower portions of the belt or band so as to be capable of movement relatively thereto.

A rope or cord 23 is attached at a point intermediate its ends to one of the upper portions of the belt or band in such manner that one portion can be passed around the roller 18 and then returned and passed over a roller 24 mounted on the adjacent pin 12.

The other portion of the rope or cord 23 is also passed over the roller 24:. The two ends of the rope or cord 23 are left to hang free and the belt or band, and with it the curtains suspended from the hooks 20, 21, 22, is actuated by pulling one or other of the depending portions of rope or cord 23.

It will be obvious that the invention is not limited to the construction of the base board 11 illustrated and that the mounting of the rollers thereon and other constructional details may be modified. without departure from the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A curtain suspension and actuating device comprising a base plate, a series of rollers mounted on said plate, one at each end and a pair at the center, a curtain carrier consisting of an endless band passed around the end rollers and under the center rollers and so disposed as to cause its runs to cross one another, the lower parts of the runs being substan tially strai ht, and means to impart motion to said ban attached to the upper part of one run thereof.

2. A curtain suspension and actuating device comprising a base plate having a roller mounted adjacent each end and a pair of rollers at the center, an endless crossed band disposed around the end rollers and under the center rollers,ineans on said band to support a curtain, and a cord engaging said band to pass over one of the center rollers and one of the'end rollers.

3. A curtain suspension and actuating device comprising a base plate having a single roller revolubly mounted near one end, a pair of rollers respectively inner and outer near the other end, vand two idle rollers at the center, one of the idle rollers being doublegrooved, an endless crossed band trained around the end rollers and under the idle rollera, the lower parts of its runs being horizontal, a pulloord fixed to said band to extend around the double-grooved idle roller and the outer end roller, and a series of curtain suspending hooks adjustable along the lower parts of the runs of said band.

A curtain suspension and actuating device comprising a base plate, a series of rollers one near each end and two equallyspaced from the'center, all being in the same horizontal plane, one of the center rollers having a deep annular groove, a curtain carrier consisting of a crossed endless band trained around the end rollers and passed under the center rollers, said band presenting a straight lower a-un portion, an idle roller fixed on the side of one of the end rollers adjacent the ved roller, a single cord trained over said idle rollerand around the grooved roller and attached to said band to actuate it in-either direction, a plurality of curtain hooksadjustahieon said band, and a pairof similar hooks fixed spacedly on said band intermediate the innermost of the first named hooks.
