Description

UNITED sTArES a me PAT T OFFICE" HANS NEUBERT, OF ANNABERG, GERMANY, ASSIGNOE TO GENEBAL ELCTRIC COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK ELnomRIcAL coNNEcTEn i Application fi1ed"u is, 1927, Serial Ne. 2053039, and in Germany November 26,1926.
My invention relates to electric connecters, more specifically to connecter-s of the detachable type' such as usedjon electric cooking and heating appliances, and has 'for its object the '5 provision of a simple, reliable and efficient means of this character which operates at a reduced temperature.
Devices for connecting up electric heating and cooking utensilsfor instance, plug contacts, often attain u very high temperature when in operation; This heat is transmitted from the contact device to the conductors leadingthereto and endangers the insulation of the latter, I c t According to the invention the temperature of the contact device is reduced in that the, temperature drop in the contact device itself is increased. This object is attained by making the contact' device of insulating material which is a poor conductor of heat, such; for .instance, as porcelain, wh ch contans the our-1 rent' feed conductor in its interior. At its end the feed conductor is connected to a small r contact cap which only partially encloses the pin of insulating material. The conduction of heat can be further reduced by making the feed conductorof band ,form and by reducing the Contacting surfacebetween the contact ,device and the wall of the utensil.
For, amore complete understanding of my inventionreference should be had to the ac companying; drawing, the single figure of which is a sectionalgview of ;a connecter for' cooking utensl embodying this invention. i i i 'shown in one form as a pin or plug contact i ove'rwhch a suitable plug socket connected *tions 18-so that it Referring to the drawingthe invention is v pin 10 has an enlarged base and isprovided .to the 'wall 13 is eiected by means .of a nut 15 which presses the porcelain ?ring 16 r against the asbestos disk 17. The porcelain ring 16 is also 'provided With bearing projecwhole of its adjacent'face against the asbestos disk 17. 'As shown, theprojections 14 fit in openngs 19 in the utensil wall. u The invention s, of course, not restricted to V .pin or plug devices but may also be employed for' connections with screw Contacts. I t
Whatl claim as new *and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A connecter for electric heatcrs comprising a'pin made of electrically insulating material, projections on said pin forming supports of poor heat conductivity therefor a conductor extending through said pin and a cap on said pin connected to saidconductor. 2. A connecter for electric ;heaters comprising a pin made ofelectrically insulating material, projections on one end of'saidpin forming supports of poor heat conductivity therefor, a conductor extending through said pin, a cap on said'pin connected to said conductor, and a clamping member for said'pin provided with bearingiprojections.
In witness Whereof, I have hereunto set hand this 11 day of J une, 1927.
