Apparatus for dyeing hat bodies in a circulating bath are known, in which for the purpose of dyeing and subsequent rinsing one or more hat bodies are placed on suitably formed perforated cones on which they are held by perforated conical covers. ln such apparatus the hat bodies have also been placed with the point downwards and the opening at the top between the perforated cones, which are also placed in this position, and even dyed in this position by means of an ascending circulating bath, for the purpose of preventing the rims of the hat bodies bending over and for preventing the formation of bubbles.
These known mechanical dyeing apparatus in which the hat bodies are dyed in lots slipped one on the other, have the drawback o that the hat bodies are not dyed through uniformly. According to the present invention mechanical dyeing apparatus of this kind are considerably improved in their operation by the path of the dyeing bath through the apparatus being lengthened. According to the invention this is effected by the bath being introduced into the apparatus in the tangential direction. Through the bath entering the apparatus tangentially, it is given a row, tary motion and caused to ascend from the b bottom to the top while continuing its rotary motion around the hat bodies, so that the container encloses a rotating column of liquid, which ascendsin the direction from bottom to top. A hat body or the like exposed to a bath which is given such a motion will of course be far more uniformly and thoroughly dyed than in dyeing apparatus, in which the bath passes through the contain- 40 er in a circulating motion produced by the pressure and suction of a circulating pump and the bath seeks to follow the shortest path between the suction and delivery pipes.
In the accompanying drawing a constructional example of a dyeing apparatus in accordance with the present invention is shown, in which the container is made conical to correspond to the shape of the hat bodies and the dyeing bath enters at the lowest point in a tangential direction.

At the top of the container 2 is an air vent 4, through which the air can escape. A small pipe 5 connected to the said air vent returns the bath escaping through the said opening into the dye reservoir 8, which shown diagrammatically in Fig. 3 is connected to a circulating pump 9, by which a circulation of the bath through the vessel 2 is maintained. The 65 dyeing bath aspired by the circulating pump from the bath reservoir is forced through the branch 3 which is connected to the delivery pipe of the pump in a tangential direction into the container 2, so that the bath will rise from the bottom to the top of the container, while continuing it-s rotary motion and, pass- Y ing through the hat bodies to an outflow 6, through which it flows back to the bath reservoir from where it commences to circulate again through the container 2.
Thus the bath is caused to circulate positively through the apparatus in helical lines or spirals, in such a manner that it is forced to follow the longest possible path through the apparatus.
Preferably a plurality of containers 2 are connected to a common circulating pump, as shown diagrammatically in Figure 2. In this casel the delivery pipe of the pump is connected to a distributer 7, to which the separate containers are connected in such a manner thatthe bath comin g from the distributer enters the separate containers in a tangential direction.

A dyeing apparatus more particularly for hat bodies, comprising a closed container, the bottom of which is constituted by an upright perforated form, adapted for stretching-on the hat bodies or the like to be dyed and letting the dye liquor flow through, and an inlet to said closed' container for the dveing liquid. u

A dyeing apparatus, more particularly for hat bodies, comprising a closed container, the bottom ot' which is constituted by a perforated form of upright conical shape adapted for stretching-on the hat bodies, or the like and constituting the outlet for the dyeing liquid, and an inlet for the dyeing liquid located at the bottom of said closed container.
3. A dyeing apparatus more particularly for hat bodies comprising a closed container provided with an inlet arranged to cause the dyeing liquid to enter the container in a direction crossing the axis of the container and to pass around'it in an upward direction with a rotary motion, and a perforated hollow shape being the bottom of the container and constituting the outlet for the liquid introduced in the'container, said hollow lperforated shape serving for stretching on the hat bodies to be dyed.
4. A dyeing apparatus more particularly for hat bodies comprising a closed container circular in cross section, and a hollow perforatedA shape on which the hat bodies are adapted to be stretched being the bottom of the container, the container being provided with an inlet leading vthe dyeing liquid in a tangential direction into the container where- Y by to cause the liquid to pass through the container with a rotary motion and to rise from the bottom in an upward direction.
5. A dyeing apparatus more particularly for hat bodies' comprising a closed container having a conical form, and an upright perforated hollow cone on which the hat bodies are adapted to be stretched being the bottom of the container and forming the outlet of the container, an inlet at the bottom of the container leading the dyeing liquid in tangen tial direction into the container and causing the dyeing liquid to pass through the container with a rotary motion and rising from the bottom to the top.

A dyeing apparatus, more particularly for hat bodies, comprising a closed container the bottom of which is constituted by an upright perforated form adapted for stretching-on the hat bodies or the like to be dyed, and letting the dye liquor flow through, and an inlet to said closed container for the dyeing liquid and means, whereby the dyeing liquid is sucked or forced through the pervious container bottom from without to within.
7. Dyeing apparatus Jfor hat bodies and the like, including a perforated upright mould for the hat bodies forming the bottom of a complete closed dyeingcontainer, and a readily detachable bell forming the cover of said container, in combination with means for securing the bell to said container whereby, when said bell is removed, the bottom is entirely laid open for the stretching-on and taking-off of the hat bodies.
8. Dyeing apparatus for hat bodies and the like, including a perforated upright mould for the hat bodies forming the bottom of a complete closed dyeing container, and a readily detachable bell forming the cover of said container in combination with means for securing the bell to said container whereby, when said bell is removed, the bottom is entirely laid open for the stretching-on and taking-ofi oitl the hat bodies, and means for passing the dyeing liquid from said container.
