IMPROVEMENT IN RAlLROAD-FROGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 174,368, dated March 7, 1876; application filed February 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD H. JOHNSON, of Chicago. in the county of (look and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Railway --Frogs, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
The object of my invention is to so construct a frog that any part thereof may be easily and readily removed or replaced without delay, or the necessity of removing the whole frog from the track, the corresponding parts of all frogs being alike and interchangeable.
The frog is constructed with a base-plate, b, Fig. 3, of cast or wrought iron, fitted between the side rails, and made in form to receive the point-plate a, Fig. 1, with slots across the top to form openings for the bolts d (I, used to secure the side rails c c in place; second, a point-plate, a, to be made of cast or forged steel, or other suitable metal, resting upon the base-plate b, Fig. 2, and secured in place by the side rails c c, which rails are held in place by the bolts d d.
In' the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 shows atop view of the point-plate a, and also a cross-section thereof, indicated by the dotted lines. Fig. 2 shows a longitudinal section through the base-plate b and point-plate a, showing the bolt-holes. Fig. 3 shows the base-plate b and the cross-sections of same. Fig. 4 shows a side view of frog completed. Fig. 5 shows a top view of frog completed and cross-sections of same.
What I claim as my invention in the frog as described is The cast or wrought iron base-plate b, and the cast or forged plate a resting on it, and held in place by the side rails; and I make no claim to any other part of said frog as my invention.
