IMPROVEMENT m SHANK AND HEEL SUPPORTS FOR BOOTSVAND SHOES;
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 114,283, dated February 29, 1876 application filed December 29, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES S. NELSON, of Hillsborough, in the county of Montgomery and State of Illinois, have in vented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Shank and Heel Supporter, which improvement is fully setfort-h in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My improvement consists in a metallic piece,
. which lies outside theheel and beneath the shank, and which extends up outside the counter, to prevent its being forced outward by the side pressure of the heel of the wearer.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a gaiter with my improvement applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the supporter.
A is the vamp, B the counter, (J the shank, and D the heel of the gaiter. The supporter has an upper extension, E, in contact with the part of the counter just above the side of the heel, a central part, F, held firmly to the side of theheel by a screw, G, and a lower portion, H, extending around the corner of the heel and beneath the shank, asshown.
