' STATIONERY nox Appnmxon ma January 17, 1m.- serial no. uns?.
The present invention is directed t improvements in stationery boxes.
,The primary object of the invention is to provide an article of this kind for use on oilic'e desks or athome, the construction-being such that various'articles, such as papel;i
envelopes, pens and pencils may be store convenientl in the `box in order that-access ma be rea y had thereto.
other ob'ect of the invention is to pro- .vide an article of this kind so constructed that the same can be closed to prevent the entrance of dust.
Another object of the invention is: to provide a novel arrangement of partitions to provide compartments of'varying sizes and shapes, and further to provide, a cover common to all of the compartments.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement ofA arts to be hereinafter more fully describe claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,- Figure 1 is a pe ective view of the box showing the cover in 1ts o en position.
Figure 2 is a longitu inal sectional view through the box .the cover being closed.
' Referring to the drawing, 1`designates the box which is rectangular in shape, and is rovided with a cover 2, said cover consist- 1n of sections 3, 4 and 5, the latter section bemg fixed to the upper edges of the sizes 6 and rear 7 of the box. The fixed section 5.
is provided with a recess 8 near its rear edge, the urpose of which will be later explained.
e section 4 is connected to the section 5l by a hinge 9, while the section 3 is connected to the section 4 by a hinge 10. The section 3 has a handle 3 upon its forward end to facilitate opening the cover.
A horizontal partition 11 is fixed within the box and divldes a portion thereof into upper and lower compartments 12 and 13,`
respectively, the former servi to retain letter sized sheets of paper, wh' e the latter is designed to hold legal sized sheets of l T. P e forward end of the'partition is provided with an upwardly and forwardly inclined lstrip 14, the purpose of which will appear later.
Mounted upon the partition 11 adjacent the forward endthereof are oppositely disposed trays 15-15 which include spaced-side walls 55 16 and inner end walls 17-17, the partition constituting bottoms for the respective trays, while outer end closures are provided therefor by the sides 6. A wall 18 is fixed between the ends 17--17 in order to provide reeo casses 19 and 20, the former oy ening into the `top compartment ,21 forme by the walls -16-16 'and strip 14, said compartment ex-l tending transversely of the top in order to provide ample space for the reception of pen 65 holders and pencils. The recess 20 opens into the compartment 12 and by providlng these recesses access to the paper contained in the compartment 12 may be readily had, likewise the recess 19 permits ready access to the pen 70 holders or pens in the compartment 21.
Extending transversel of the box 8 and spaced from the forwar end 22 is a partition 23 which forms in conjunction withsaidl wall a compartment 24 for the rece tion of 75 envelopes, said partition forming t e-front walls of the compartments 25-25, the end walls 26-26 being spaced to provide 'a recess 27 which communicates with the open end of the compartment 13, the rear-walls 27 --27 80 of the compartments 25 constituting stops for the paper 1n the compartment 13. y
It will be lbvious that access can be readily had to the paper in the compartment 13 owing to the presence'of the recess 27, said com- 85 artment having upon its bottom a tapered lock 28 which serves to hold the forward end of the paper sheets elevated slightly to facilitate the removal of a single or small number of sheets.
Fixed to the under surface of the section 4 of the cover is a clip 29 which ma be used for holdin blotters, cards, a sma ruler, or other artic es.
The compartments 16 and 25 may be used 95 `for holding various'articles, such as rubber bands, erasers, paper fasteners, pen points, or in fact, any small article.
Access may be had to the envelope com artment 24 andccmpartment 25 by merely old- 10 be locked in its closed ing the cover section 3upon the section 4, and when access is to be had to the other compartments the sections may be'raised and placed in the position as shown in dotted lines in Figure 2, and at which time the free edge of the section 3 engages the recess 8 in order to y hold the cover open t0 permit ready access to the various compartments of the box.
While I have illustrated the box as being made of Wood, it will be of course understood that any other material may be used if desired.'
To facilitate the removal of the last sheet of paper in the compartment 12, the partition 11 has an opening 30 formed thereinwhich has its rear curved Wall disposed rear- Wardly of the trays 15-15 and since the for- Ward edges of the sheets abut the rear walls 16-16, the sheet can he conveniently grasped upon placing the handin said opening.
lt will be of course understood that the device can be made in various sizes and may be used in a drawer opening of a cabinet or desk. If desired any suitable form of lock may be used in order that the cover 2 may osition. p
Having thus descri ed the invention, I claim:
A box for the purpose specified having a horizontal partition fixed therein to provide upper and lower compartments, said partition having an inclined strip upon its forward end, trays mounted upon the partition and formlng in conjunction with said strip a compartment, said trays having their yinner ends spaced to provide recesses opening into the upper compartment, and the last named compartment, said partition having an opening formed therein, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature.
