This invention relates in general to shoe guards, and in particular to that type of shoe guard worn by steel workers and others engaged in kindred occupations, in order to protect their feet from heavy falling objects and from excessive heat or contact with hot metal.

Referring to the figures, it will be seen that the guard consists of the pressed metal toe cap 1, the pressed metal instep shield 2, the flexible sole 3, to which the aforementioned shields are fastened by means ofrivets 4, and the adjustable straps 5 and 6 for securing the guard assembly to the foot. The instep shield 2 is flared at edges 9 and 10 as illustrated to permit flexibility in Walking without making this section too cumbersome.

The safety foot guard is held in place by means of the two canvas straps 5 and 6, which are provided with adjustable buckles. Strap 5 passes through openings 7-7, located on 3 either side of shield 2, passes under the arch on the shoe and over the instep; strap 6 is inserted through holes 8 and passes around the back of the shoe.

This guard is designed so that when worn, there is a space between the guard and the shoe, so that if a heavy object should fall on v the guard, it would not crush the foot.

The advantages of this guard are first,fiexibility while walking; second, the guard being 40 back on the toe of the shoe; third, the heavy flexible sole affords ample protection; fourth, this guard gives complete protection to the toes, instep and sole of the foot.

Having described my invention what I claim as new is:

1. A foot guard, comprising a metallic toe cap, a metallic instep shield separate from the toe cap, a flexible sole, and means securing said cap and said shield to said sole whereriveted tothe sole insures it from slipping sole.

A safety shoe guard, comprising a metallic toe cap, a metallic instep shield separate from the toe cap having a portion overlapping said toe cap, a flexible sole, and means se curing said cap and shield to said sole whereby relative movement between said cap and said shield may take place by flexure of said so e.

3. In a safety shoe guard, a metallic toe cap, a metallic instep shield separate from the toe cap, said shield including a flared edge overlapping said toe guard, a flexible sole, means securing said cap and said shield to said sole whereby relative movement between said cap and said shield may take place by flexure of said sole, and means for securing the assembly to a shoe.
