My invention relates to humidifying devices and has for an object theV provision of a device which will purify and maintain the air in rooms of buildings in a moistened condition.
Another object of the invention resides in providing a case having upper and lower openings, together with a spray nozzle situated adjacent said upper opening fordirecting a spray of water downwardly along said vcase, and a drain at the lower portion thereof for removing the surplus water from said case.
A still further object resides in providing a removable partition within the lower portlon of said case, said partition being removable through the lower opening, and being adapted to form a reversed constricted passageway at the lower portion of said case communicating with said lower opening.
Another object of the invention resides in providing a curved detlector attachedjto the interior of the case immediately above said opening and communicatin with said partition, and in further provi ing a second deflector secured to said partitlon in spaced relation thereto, and removable with said partition through said lower opening.
Other objects of the invention resi ein the 3o novel combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention proper consists of an elongated rectangular sheet metal case A comprising side walls 9 and 10 and front and rear walls 11 and 12. The front wall 11 is provided at its upper end with a register opening 13 and near its lower end with a second register o ening 14, said openings being surrounded y langes 16 and 17. The upper portion 15 of the rear wall 12 is curved towards wall 11 while at the lower end of the 55 case is provided a trough-like casting which forms a suitable bottom for the device.
Within the interior of the case is provided a Water supply pipe 19 connected to a water supply line 21 which pipe terminates in a 60 downwardly directed spray nozzle 2O situated near the upper end of said case. A cock 22 in the pipe 19 regulates the amount of water delivered-to the humidifying device while a drain 23 formedl in the casting 18 and 65 provided with an overiow pipe 25 connected to a suitable'waste pipe 24, serves to conduct away the surplus' water.
Within the lowermost portion of case A is placed a vertical partition 26 which extends 70 between the walls 9 and 10 and is spaced from the two walls 11 and 12.- This partition is insertiblethrough the register opening 14 and is movable a'long two flanges or guides 27 secured to the walls 9 and 10. These 75 flanges are turned up at their lower ends, as indicated at 127, to form stops or rests for supportin the lower edge of the partition 26, which is isposed in spaced relation to the bottom 18 of the device. Adjacent the upper 80 end of the register opening 14 I provide a curved delector 28 which extends between the Walls 9 and 10 and which is attached to the upper portion of flange 17. This de'lector extends over to the upper portion of the partition 26, and in conjunction with said partition forms a reversed constricted passageway 31 by means of which the moisture laden air entering the upper portion 30 of the humidifier through the re 'ster opening 90 13 may be discharged throug the re ister opening 14. An opening 29 in this de ector permits of attaching a suit-able key to the cock 22 in pipe 19 so that the supply of water may be regulated at will.
In the operation of the device the downwardly directed spray of waterfrom the nozzle 20 causes the air to enter the register opening. 13 and pass downwardly through the upper portion 30 of case A at the same 100 ther precipitation of the large globules of -moisture from the air. In addition to deflector 28 a second deflector 32 is employed which is disposed in spaced relation to the partition 26 and extends in the same general direction as said partition and the deiector 28, terminating at a point intermediate the upper and lower edge of the register opening 14. This second deiiector is preferably attached to two wing- like portions 33 and 34 formed on the upper part of the partition 26 and is removable from the device through the register openings 14 with said partition.
The registers used with my invention which I have indicated at B, are preferably constructed as illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5. These registers are formed with a frame 35 of U-shaped cross section, Fig. 5, provided with inwardly turned ianges 36 and 37. Flange 36 is provided with notches 38 spaced at suitable intervals throughout its extent so as to receive cords 39 which may be placed across the same, to provide an ornamental facing for the register. The frames 35 of registers B are adapted toc-slide in U-shaped register casings 40 and 41 attached to the flanges 16 and 17 of register openings 13 and 14, which register casings are open along the upper portions of the same to permit of the insertion or removal of said registers therefrom. By means of this arrangement access is had to the interior of the humidifier so that the water supply may be readily turned off or on and so that the nozzle and the drain may be cleaned or repaired when the occasion arises. Access to the drain 23 is further accommodated by the removal of the partition 26 through the register opening 14.
The case A, as constructed. is adapted to be arranged between the studding 51 and plastering 52 of the walls of an ordinary frame building, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. The flanges 16 and 17 extend through the plastering 52 to permit the attachment of the registers B to the face of the wall so as to be readily removed.
My invention is particularly advantageous in that it provides a simple and effective device for furnishing properly washed and humidiiied air to the rooms of buildings. The device may be practically concealed within the walls of the building. By means of the removable registers and partition, access may be readily had to the various parts of the invention permitting the same to be cleaned or repaired. By means of the reversed constricted passageway and the curved deflectors, the larger particles of water in the moisture laden air are effectively removed.
Changes in the specific form of my invention, as herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what isl claimed without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. A humidifying device comprising a rectangularcase having an opening near one end thereof, anozzle in said case for directing a spray of water along said case, a drain in the said case for removing the surplus water therefrom, and a partition within said case extending between two of the walls thereof and being spaced from the other walls and falling short from the end of said case in which said drain is situated, said partition being removable through the opening.
2. A humidifying device comprising a rectangular case having an opening near one end thereof, a nozzle in said case, a curved defiector extending between the side walls of said case and attachedto the front wall within and immediately above said opening, a removable partition insertible through said opening adapted to be supported within said case with one of its edges in contact with said curved deflector, wing-like portions formed on said partition and a second deflector mounted between said wing-like portions being disposed in spaced relation to said first deflector and to said partition, and being removable with sai-d partition through said opening.
3. A humidifying device comprising a case having a discharge outlet, means within said case for humidifying the air passing through said outlet, a drain in said case near said outlet for removing the surplus water from said case, a partition in said case positioned in proximity to said drain and forming with said case a passageway leading up to said outlet, said partition being removable through said outlet to give access to said drain through said outlet.
4. A humidifying device comprising a rectangular case having an opening in the front wall thereof above the bottom of said case, means within said case for humidifying the air passing through said case, a drain in the bottom of said case for removing surplus water therefrom, guideways formed along the side walls of said case, a removable partition insertible through said opening adapted to be slid along said guideways, and a stop for limiting the movement of said partition along said guideways.
5. A humidifying device comprising a case having an outlet, means within said case for humidifying the air passing through said outlet, a removable partition within said case positioned in proximit to said outlet, said partition being remova le through said outlet and a deector within said case extending from said partition to said case and being a continuation of said partition, said partition and defiector forming with said case a passageway leading up to said outlet.
6. A humidiying device comprising a case having an outlet, means within said case for humidifying the air passing through said outlet, a removable partition within said case positioned in proximity to said outlet, said partition being removable through said outlet and a defiector within said case extending from said partition to said case and being a continuation of said partition, said partition and deiiector forming with said case a passageway leading up to said outlet, and a second deflector attached to said partition and spaced from said partition and first deiiector, said second defiector being removable with said partition through said3 outlet.
7. A humidiying device comprising a case having a discharge outlet, means Within said case for humidifying the air passing through said outlet, `a removable partition in said case disposed adjacent said outlet and forming with said case a tortuous passageway communicating with said outlet, said partition being removable through said outlet to eliminate said tortuous passageway, and a support within said case for holding said partition in operative position therein.
