Description
LIQUID STORAGE TANK Filed July 2, 1928 F/GJ.
[m Mbnogz i020 0 5 hoods b,- as shown in Patented Dec. 31, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT o Flcs IVAN nomouovrrcn 510m, or LONDON, Imenum LIQUID-STORAGE ram:
Application am July 2, 1928, Serial 1T0. 889,918, in in Great Britain m e, 1927.
1 This invention relates to liquid storage tanks of the type having a fioatin roof, and
' more particularly to which the roof is divided into a plurality of 5 flexibly connected cells.
According .to this invention one ormore open containers for rain or other water is or are provided on the. upper surface of the floating roof. In the case of a cellular roof means are also rovided for preventing the water from finding its way into the tank between two adjoining cells.
The invention as applied to a cellular roof is illustrated by way'of example in the an- .ne'ired drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a partial plan. 7
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3'is adetail on an enlarged scale, and
Fig. 4 is a side view of a further'detail.
shown in the drawings, the water containers are formed with plain vertical side walls a 'oppositeto which on adjacent cells a: are arranged other walls I) which are bent as 85 extend over prevent the .cent cells :0.
At'the corners where four cells abut a sliding cover plate 0, which is preferably octagonal, rests on the upper surface of the Figs. 1and4.. H
Although the containersare usually sup;
the upper edge of the walls a and entry of water between two adjaplied with rain water they may, if desired, bd
supplied with water from any convenient source, which may also be used at any time ensure that, the level of the water is approxi gj mately the same in all the containers in order; to prevent any particular cell from tilting.
relatively to the others. v
Having thus described the nature of my said invention and the tanks of the type in" shown in Figs. 2 and 3 to form hoods which i 2. A liquid storage tank, a cellular floating roof for said tank, a plurality of water containers locatedv on the upper surface of said roof, said cells supporting'bent walls which form hoods for plain vertical walls of adjacent containers, and a slidin the upper. part of each hood more than two cells meet.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.

best means I know of carrying the same into practical efiecfi I claim': 1. A floating roof for lhfiid storage tanks comprising a plurality of cells .each having walls projecting upwardly therefrom and forming water containers, some of said walls being bent outwardly and downwardly to ex- 50 tend over ad acent unbent walls of adjacent plate restin on at corners w ere
