This invention relates to minnow pails and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a means whereby bait minnows may be kept fresh and whereby convenient access may be had to the minnows when desired.

A further object of the invention is to provide a pail of the above mentioned class, which may be immersed in water, and where in the minnows therein may be protected from the waves.

A further object of the invention is to provide a pail of the above mentioned class, which may be suspended from a dock, boat,

or the like, either in an upright or inverted position as desired.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown an embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the body portion of my improved pail, having a closed bottom 6, and an open top 7, the upper edges of the body portion being rolled outwardly to form a peripheral head 8.

Spaced from the open end 7 is a partition, comprising a perforated section 9, and an imperforate section 10, the two sections be ing connected by means of hinges 11. Slightly below the partition the wall of the body portion is pressed inwardly to form a groove 12 in the outer surface thereof, and a corresponding rib 13 on the inner surface thereof. The groove and rib extend sub stantially throughout one-half the circumference of the pail.

Formed on the outer surface of the body portion 5, adjacent the open end 7, and disposed at diametrically opposite points, is a pair of lugs 18. Spaced from the closed end 6, in vertical alignment with the lugs 18, is a similar pair of lugs 19. Each of said

18 and 19 are substantially hook-shaped, having one end fixedly secured to the body portion 5, and having the other end free, forming a vertically disposed aperture 20 in each lug. Carried by the

18 and 19 is a continuous bail of endless type and of rectangular contour, having side portions 21 slidably extending through said lugs, and end portions 22 extending respectively across the open top 7 and the closed bottom 6. The length of the side portions 21 is greater than the length of the body portion 5, in order that the end portions 22 of the bail may be spaced from the corresponding end of the pail.

In the use of my improved pail, it may be 1 suspended from a boat, dock, or the like, by the bail, either in an upright position in order that ready access may be had to the interior thereof, or in inverted position, in order that fresh water may continuously circulate through the interior of the pail. When the pail is submerged, the minnows therein are protected by the body portion 5, closed bottom 6, and the imperforate section 10 of the partition, from the water rushing over the pail. Due to the partition being spaced from the open end 7, the minnows may be removed from the pail as needed, without the danger of other minnows escaping by jumping out of the open end of the pail. The construction of the pail enables the same to be floated if desired, either in upright or inverted position. The disposition of the bail with the portion extending across either end of the pail, enables the pail to be readily carried either in upright or inverted position.

It is to be understood that the form of the invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as the preferred example of the same and that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. A minnow pail comprising a body portion having an open end, a partition spaced from said end and being formed of a perforated section and an imperforate section, said sections being pivotally connected, one of said sections being fixedly secured to the inner surface of the pail, the other of said sections being detachably secured thereto, and a continuous bail for handling the pail in either an upright or inverted position.

2. A minnow pail comprising a compartment body, apertured lugs formed on the outer surface of the body, and a continuous bail slidably extending through said lugs to provide for the handling of the pail in either an upright or inverted position.

3. A minnow pail comprising a compartment body, a pair of hook-shaped lugs adjacent each end of the body and having one end secured to the outer surface thereof, the lugs of each pair being disposed at diametrically opposite points of the body, and a continuous bail having a pair of side portions, each slidably extending through a lug of each pair of lugs, and further having a pair of end portions connecting the side portions and respectively extending across the ends of the body.

4. A minnow pail comprising a compartment body, apertured lugs formed on the outer surface of the body, and an endless bail slidably secured by said lugs and extending around said body lengthwise thereof whereby the pail may be supported in either an upright or inverted position.
