The lower end trame (Figs. 6l and 7) comprises an angle bar having ahorizontal flange 1 extending inwardly from the lower edge of a vertical flange 2. l The flange 1 is mitred to permit the vertical liange 2 to be ient'to form the corners ot the frame and to bring the ends of the bar into alinement and approximate abutting contact at the rear side ot the frame. The ends ot the bar forming the trame are rigidly connected by a plate 3 welded or otherwise attached to both ends of the vertical flange 2. Plates 4 are fitted in the corners of this frame and secured to ad- `yacent portions of the horizontal flange by welding or otherwise, thus obtaining the required strength. A number of angle bars 5 have the ends of their horizontal flanges seated upon the horizontal flanges 1 at the ends of the frame and secured thereto by bolts n n angular finishing plate 7 has its polished or ornamented outer flange extending `along the front of the vertical flange of this lower frame and its horizontal flange extending under the front horizontal flange of said frame (Figs. 5, 7 and 9).v
The casing comprises a pair of vertical side walls 8 having their rear edges bent laterally toward each other to form retaining flanges 9 and their front edges bent laterally towa wd p each other to form corner portions 10, the
edges of said corner portions 10 being bent inwardly to form the sides 11 of a door opening in the front of the casing (Figs. 6, 10 and 11). The lower end of each wall 8 is bent inwardly to provide a flange 12 at the lower end of each of said walls 8. The flanges 12 entend under the ends of the lower end frame, the walls 8 rising against the outer sides of the vertical flanges of the ends of said frame. The lower ends of the corner portions 10 are bent inwardly to provide extensions 13 which extend under the front corner portions of the lower end frame while the door opening sides 11 are cut away so that said parts 11 may be bent inwardly over the lower end frame.
The rear wall of the casing or enclosure comprises a wall member 14, the edges of which preferably form abutting contact with the inner surfaces of the walls 8 and overlap the retaining flanges 9 (Figs. 6, 10 and 11). A vertical angle member 15 cooperates vith each retaining ange 9 to hold the rear wall 14 in position. One angle of each angle ineinber 15 is secured to a correspondingl end wall 8 while the other flange extends parallel with and spaced from the retaining flange 9, thus permitting the vertical `edges of the rear wall 14to be inserted between the flanges 9 and the cooperating flanges of the angle members The wall 14 is provided ith transverse strengthening corrugations 1G to resist distortion by the heat and near its lower end provided with a-number of air inlet openings 17, and with a smoke pipe opening 18 near its upper end. rlhe margin of the opening 18 is preferably shaped to form a flange 19 to rcsist distortion by the heat. rllhe rear wall 14 has an inwardly extended flange 2O at its lower end which extends under the rear of the lower end frame and which is mitred at the ends to make joint with the initred ends of the flanges 12 (Fig. 10).
The casing-and lower end frame are cured to four supporting legs, preferably of duplicate construction, and each comprising a rising portion 21 or ornamental configuration having an angular top 22. The flanges 12 and 2O of the casing walls at the rear corners are seated upon the tops 22 of the supporting legs and these parts are rigidly connected by bolts 23 passing through the horizontal flange 1 of the lower end frame, through the flanges 12 and 2O extending under said lower end frame and through the stove leg tops 22 (Figs. 5 and 19). Additional rigidity is obtained by angular flanges 24 which extend upwardly from the leg tops 22 and forni close v contact with the inner edges of the flange 1 of the lower end frame at the corners. The ends of the bolts 6 are seated in recesses 25 in the leg tops 22 (Fig. 20).
rlhe upper ends of the walls 8 are bent inwardly to provide flanges 26 in the same plane with an inwardly turned flange 27 on the upper end of the rear wall 14, the corners of said flanges being mitred to obtain abutting contact (Fig. 14). The upper ends of the vertical corner portions 10 are bent inwardly to provide flanges 28 forming mitre joints with the front ends of the flanges 26.
As previously stated, a door opening is provided in the front of the casing, the vertical sides of said opening being formed by the inwardly turned flanges 11. The lower end of said door opening is bordered by the finishing plates 7. rll`he upper end of said door opening is below the lower edge of a plate 29, the ends of which are bent inwardly to provide flanges 30 fitting closely against the flanges 11 above the door opening. The lower edge of the plate 29 is bent inwardly to form a flange 3l for the upper end of the door opening and the inner edge of said flange 31 is bent downwardly forming a flange 32 constituting a door seat (Figs. 12 and 13). Angular brackets 33 have their horizontal flanges seated upon the flange 31 and their vertical flanges bearing against the flanges 30 and bolts 34 pass through the vertical flanges of the bracket 33 and through the flanges 30 and 11, thereby rigidly connecting said parts and supporting the wall 29 by the walls 8. The upper edge of the wall 29 is turned inwardly to provide a flange 35 in the salne plane with the adjacent flanges 28 and having abutting contact therewith (Figs. 12 and 14).
In the described construction the inturned flanges 26, 27, 28 and 35 at the upper ends of the wall plates 8, 14 and 29 are at approximately the saine horizontal plane and constitute means for attachment of the top of the casing. As shown, the top comprises a wall 36 having a marginal downwardly flaring flange 37 of ornamental configuration eX- tending downwardly below the upper ends of the vertical casing walls 8, 14 and 29. A number of bosses or lugs 38 are formed integral with the inner side of this top structure and are designed and arranged to seat upon the upper surfaces of the flanges 26, 27 and 29. These bosses or lugs 38 are formed with vertical threaded holes which receive screws 39 projected upwardly through holes in the flanges 26, 27 and 29 and screwed into said holes, thus clamping the top upon the vertical walls of the casing or enclosure and obtaining a rigid construction at the upper end. e
The walls 8 are shielded from the heat of the enclosed stove by liners provided for that purpose. As shown, each liner comprises a plate 40 supported from the flanges 26 by hooks'41 engaging said plates and hooking onto the flanges 26 through slots 42 (Figs. 5, 10 and 14). The lower edges of the liner plates 40 are held by hooks 43 against spacers 44. The spacers 44 are in the form of vertical channels or flanges rigid with the walls 8 and permit circulation of the air between the liners and the walls 8 and at'the same time shield said walls 8 from the intensity of the heat of the stove enclosed within the casing.
The lower end of the door opening in the front of the casing includes a horizontal bar 45 having its ends abutting the flanges 11. This bar 45 is supported on the horizontal flanges 1 of the lower frame by lugs 46 and is attached to said lower frame by bolts 47 passing through said bar and through the horizontal flange 1 of the lower frame and the horizontal flange of the finishing plate 7, thus supporting said finishing plate and securing all of said parts together.
The casing wall structure at opposite sides of the ldoor opening is strengthened by a cross bar 48 (Figs. 5 and 11) abutting the rear edges of the flanges 11 about midway of the height of the door and having arms 49 secured against the outer sides of the flanges 11 by bolts 50. The end of each arm 49 is provided with a lateral extension 51 seating against the inner sides of the wall portions 10 and terminating against the inner sides of the walls 8. rl`hus, the entire front of the casing is sufficiently strengthened.
The door opening of the casing is equipped with a pair of oppositely swinging doors hinged on vertical axes. Each of said doors comprises an outer rectangular plate 52 formed with an inwardly extended flange 53 along each edge; and an inner rectangular plate 54 formed with a flange 55 along each edge and telescoping within the flanges 53. The edges of the flanges 55 abut against the inner side of the wall 52. ln this way the two plates 52 and 54 are held in spaced relationship at their edges.
A pairfof spaced vertical channel bars 56 are attached to the plate 54 within the confined space formed by the two plates and have their ends seating in corner brackets 57 fastened by screws 58 in the corners formed by the flanges 55. The intermediate portions of the flanges 55 are braced by brackets 59 (Fig. 16) having their inner and outer ends abutting the channel bars 56 and the flanges 55, respectively. These brackets are rigidly secured in position by fasteners 60. The fasteners 60 near the vfree edges ofthe doors are in the form of long screws and have knobs or handles 61 attached thereto, respectively.
These doors are of such area and thickness as to lit and opera-te properly within the door opening in order to open and close said opening. In closed position the doors bear against the flange 32 and against the bar 48. The doors are retained at their upper ends by hinge elements 62 (Figs. 12 and 13) passing through the brackets 33 and the inwardly turned flange 31 and downwardly through the door flanges 50 and 53 at the upper ends of the respective doors and engaging the corner brackets 57. The lower ends of the doors are operatively retained by hinge elements 63 passing through the platev 40, the lower door plate flanges 53 and 55 and engaging the lower corner brackets 57. The
lower ends of the doors are supported on` spacers 64 (Fig. 8). These spacers may be in the form of washers or the like whereby the doors are supported for free swinging movements on their hinges.
Each door is provided with a latch device for holding the door in closed position. As shown (Fig. 21) each latch device comprises a sleeve G5 from the lower end wall of which a latch bolt 66 extends upwardly. The sleeves are supported by the bar 45 eX- tending downwardly through holes in said bar and rigidly secured thereto. The upper end ol each latch bolt 65 is formed with an enlarged rounded head 67 caused by the power of a spring 68 within the sleeve 65 to engage within a concavity 69 in the lower end of the corresponding door. The latch bolt 66 is heldfrom detachment by a head 7 0 on its lower end. These latch bolts permit the doors to be manually operated'to and from closed positions but are sufficient to prevent undesired movements of the doors rom close-d positions.
To permit circulation of the air through each of the hollow doors, each of the door inner plates 54 is provided with a number of holes 71 near its lower end and a corresponding series of holes 72 near its upper end.
Thus the inner door plates 54 serve as liners and protectors for the outer' ornamental 'door panels 52.
The top of the casing preferably has series of air holes 73 to permit the hot air to pass freely from the casing. Through one of the holes 73 a damper operating device 74 may extend. One of the walls 8 may be provided with a hole 75 to permit connection of a crank 76 for operating the. stove grate as a shaker.
The rear wall 14 may be equipped with an arm 77 to abut against the smoke outlet 78 from the stove enclosed within the casing.

A stove casing comprising a rigid lower end frame, a rear wall and lateral side walls seated against the rear and lateral sides of said frame respectively, a flange on the lower end oi each of said walls extending under said frame, supporting legs having their upper ends engaging said flanges, fasteners passing through the upper encs of said legs and through said flanges and through said frame and securing in rigid relationship said walls and said trame and said legs, and a top wall attached to the upper ends of said rear and lateral side walls and holding the upper ends ol' said walls in ri 0id relationship.
- 2. A stove casing comprising a rigid lower ond frame, walls having their ower ends enclosing said frame, flanges on the lower ends of said walls extending under said frame, supporting legs having their upper ends engaging said flanges, fasteners passing through the upper ends of said legs and through said langes and through said frame and securing said parts in rigid relationship, and transverse members extending across said frame and having their ends rigidly attached to the sides ol said frame and to said flanges.
3. A stove casing comprising a rigid lower end frame, walls having their lower ends enclosing said trame, flanges on the lower ends of said walls extending under said frame, supporting legs having their upper ends engaging said flanges, fasteners passing 'through .the upper ends ol' said legs and through said flanges and through said frame and securing said parts in rigid relationship, transverse members extending across said frame and having their ends rigidly attached to the sides of said frame and to said flanges, a top wall seated upon the upper ends of said walls. and means rigidly fastening sai-d top wall and said first named walls together.
l. A stove casing comprising a rigid lower end frame, casing walls having their lower ends rigidly attached to said frame, flanges extending inwardly from the upper ends ot said walls, a top wall, a flange upon said top wall enclosing the upper ends off said easing walls, bosses integral with said top walls seated upon said flanges, and fasteners passing through said llrst named flanges and engaging in said bosses and securing all of said walls in rigid relationship.
5. A stove casing comprising a support, casing walls having their lower ends rigid with said support, a flange extending inwardly from the upper end of each of said walls, a top wall, a depending flange integral with said top wall extending around and helow the upper ends of said casing walls, bosses integra-l with the under side oit said top wall and seated upon said first named flanges, and fasteners passing through sai-d lirst named flanges and engaging in said bosses and securing said top wall and said casing walls in rigid relationship. n
6. A stove casing comprising supporting legs, angular flanges projecting upwardly rrom said legs, casing walls, llanges on the lower ends or said easing walls seated upon the upper ends of said legs at the outer sides of sai-d flanges on said legs, a rigid frame enclosing said leg flanges and seated upon said wall flanges, fasteners passing through the upper ends o't said legs and through said wall flanges and through said frame and securing said parts in rigid relationship, and means securing in rigid relationship the upper ends of said walls.
7. A stove casing comprising a supporting structure. separate easing walls having their lower ends rigidly fastened to said supporting structure, a flange extending inwardly at the upper end ol' each oit said casing walls, a top wall, a flange extending downwardly from said top wall and enclosing the upper ends of said eas-ii j walls, bosses integral with the inner side oiE said top wall and seated upon said flanges, and Jfasteners passing Vloetween .said flanges and engaging in said bosses and securing said top wall and said casing walls in rigid relationship.
8. A stove casingV comprising arigid lower end frame, lateral side walls having their lower ends against the lateral'sides of said frame, flanges on the lower ends of said lat eral side walls extending under said frame, a transverse member extending across` said frame and having its ends rigidy attached to the sides oft said frame and to said flanges, spaced portions rigid with the rear vertical edge of each of said lateral side walls, a rear wall having its' lower endv attached to saidv frame and having its vertical edges engaged in the spaces between said spaced portions on the rear edges of said lateral side walls respectively, a top wall seated upon the upper ends of said rear and lateral side walls, and means rigidly fastening said top wall in connection with said rear and lateral side walls.
9. A stove casing comprising a rigid lower end frame, casing walls having their lower ends rigidly attached to' said frame, flanges extending inwardly from the upper ends of said walls, a top wall seated upon said flanges, a flange in connection with said top wall enclosing the upper ends of said casing walls, and fasteners passi through said flanges that extend inwardly from said casing walls and engaging in said top wall and securing all of saidw'alls in rigid relationship.
10. A stove casing comprising a rigid lower end frame, rear wall having its lower end rigidly attached to said trame, lateral side walls having their lower ends rigidly attached to said frame, means in connection with the rear vertical edges of said lateral side walls engaging against the inner and outer sides of the vertical lateral portions of said rear wall, a top wall seated upon the upper ends of said rear and lateral side walls, and fasteners passing through said rear and lateral side walls and engaging in said top wall and securing the upper ends of all of said walls in rigid relationship.

A stove easing comprising a rigid lower end frame, a rear wall having its lower end rigidly attached to said frame, lateral side walls having their lower ends rigidly attaehed to said frame, means in connection with the rear vertical edges of said lateral side walls engaging against the inner and outer sides of the vertical lateral portions of said rear wall, a top wall seated upon the upper ends of said rear and lateral side walls, fasteners passing through said rear and lateral side walls and engaging in said top wall and securing the upper ends of all of said walls in rigid relationship, and a iange eX- tending downwardly from said top wall and enclosing the upper ends of said rear and lateral side walls.

A stove casing comprising a rigid lower end frame, lateral side walls having their lower ends rigidly attached to said frame, a rear wall having its lower end rigidly at tached to said frame, flanges at the upper ends of said walls, a top wall seated upon and supported by said flanges, fasteners passing through said flanges and engaging in said top Wall and securing all of said walls in rigid relationship, a plate rigidly supported by said top wall between the upper portions of the front of said lateral side walls and forming the upper end of a door opening, means in Connection with the front edges of said lateral side walls forming the lateral sides of said door opening, and means rigid with said frame forming the lower end of said door opening.
13. A stove casing comprising a rigid lower end frame, lateral side walls having their lower ends rigidly attached to said frame, a rear wall having its lower end rigidly attached to said frame, flanges at the upper ends of said walls, a top wall seated upon and supported by said flanges, fasteners passing through said flanges and engaging in said top wall and securing all of said walls in rigid relationship, a plate rigidly supported by said top wall between the upper portions of the front of said lateral side walls and forming the upper end of a door opening, means in connection with the front edges of said lateral side walls forming the lateral sides of said door opening, means rigid with said frame forming the lower end of said door opening, doors for opening and closing said door opening, and hinges at the upper and lower ends of said doors permitting said doors to be opened and closed.
