Description
Patented Dec. 17, 19 29 I are PHILIP JAMES KENT, or nnrnorr, MICHIGAN, assren-on o onnYsLnn oonronli- TION, orrrIenLAnn PARK, raronrenn, .A. conronnzrron or nnnnwnnn rnnnrrrrcnrron-rnn'rn rnn vrn Application filed January 6, 1926; Seria1, I\To. ;79,6 56. I I
It is the primary object of my invention to provide an ornamental frame surrounding an identification plate such as is used on automobiles, wherein the plate is locked to. an instrument board or like object so as to prevent removal of the same from either side thereof. It is another object of my invention to lock the ornamental frame in the same general manner as the identification plate itself is locked.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and construction of-the various parts of my improved device as described in the specification, claimed in my claims and shown in the accompanying drawing, in j plate 21 issecurely locked against removal which:
Fig. 1' is a view in elevation showing an identification plate mounted on an automobile instrument board, portions of the board being broken away and a portion of the plate being broken away to illustrate its; interior fastening.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same. v
I have shown an instrument board 5 having a metal covering 6 thereon. An opening 7 is cut in the board 5 and a metal plate or bar 8 is inserted therethrough against the rearward side of the covering 6. Plugs 9 are inserted through openings in the covering 6 and screwed into aligned openings in the plate or tending into the countersunk portion 11 of the cover 6. The plugs 9 are'provided with flanges 14 which bear against the countersunk portion 13 of the frame, adjacent the holes 15 The plugs 9 are provided with center apertures 17 in their forward ends as well as with flanged forward ends 18. Inserts 19 are pro-- vided in the apertures 17, said inserts being tapered to a smaller diameter at their forward ends 20. I
An identification platev 21 is inserted in the countersunk portion 13 of the frame and is provided with apertures adaptedtoclosely engage around the forward ends of the plugs 9. The identification plate 21 is likewise provided, within its apertures, with rearwardly extending rings 22 which are forced between the flanges 18 on .the forward ends of the plugs 9 and the taperedportions of the inserts 19 so as to securely lock the identification plate 21 in'place. I
It will be apparent that the identification,
from its forward face andthat the bar, 8 or plugs 9 cannot be removed without defacing the instrument board or instrument board cover 6. a It will, further be apparent that I desire it to be understood that the term instrument board. as used inthe claims is' generic, to include either, the boardproper on its cover, orboth, inasmuchas the opening 7 in the board 5 need not bemade if the 9 are extended through them..
the ornamental 'frame12 is securely locked 'in place between the identification plate 21 and the instrument board cover. 6 so as to prevent its removal without defacementr. I i
It will beobv'ous that various changes be madein the arrang'ement,'combination and construction of the various partsof myfimproved device. without departing-from the spirit of my invention and it is my intention to cover by claims such changes as may- I be reasonably included within the scope thereof. r TWhat I claim is: I I 1. In combination, a support, a plate mounted on the support and having its edges forming a frame, an identification plate mounted over said first plate, within said frame portion, the side edges of the identifica--.
tion plate being covered by the frame and means consisting of plugs positioned between said identification plate and support having means thereon for securing both said plates against unauthorized removal. 7

In combination, a support, a countersunk plate mounted thereon, having its edges forming a frame, an identification plate mounted on said firstplate, set Within the countersunk portion, andmeans consisting of plugs pdsitio'ned between said identification ,platea'nd support having" means thereon for securing bothsznd plates against u-nau-tl-iorcountersunk portion, a countersunk plate mounted with its countersufik 'pcirtion' in thecountersunk portion of the support, an identification plate mounted in the countersunk portion ofthe first plate whereby the reni'atinderfiof tl'iejfirst plate'w'ill' act as aprotecting frame-foe the side'edgs ofthe identification lateandmeansco'nsistin of? lu s .f posltloned between said ldent 'ficatlon plate "and support: having" means; thereon for seciiringboths'aid plates against unauthorized au wmobnesh ving openings therein; a plate mounted on saidlidaird having opening-g therein a'lig'iiedWith sa'idfirs't openings, plu s inth reonfw" securingsaid plate-and board 'togather; border on" said plate, forming a frame, an identification plate, within said 7 frame, and nie'ansfor' securing the inside of said; identification plate to ip'l'ilg'sf, to pre- Ventuna'u'thorize'd removal of the frame or identification plate.
