Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,992, dated February 22, 18%; application filed December 24, '1s75.

To all whom it may coacern: v Be it known that I, CYRUS WV. PACKARD,

of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin. have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Combined Side-Stick and Quoin and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and t0 the letters and figures of reference marked there- Oll.

Figure] of the drawings is a representation of -a front view of my form and galley-lock, and Fig. 2 is a plan View thereof.

The invention relates to an improvement in locking the forms within printers chases and galleys; and it consists in providing the sidestick with bolts and nuts, whereby the stick may'be locked againstthe forms, as hereinafter set forth, and also in providing the sidestick with angle-pieces, constructed' and.

adapted to the several uses hereinafter specified.

Referringto the drawings, A represents the side-stick, which may be made of wood or metal, and of any suitable length, width, and

thickness. To this stick are attached the several screw-threadedbolts 1'), upon which the adjustable nuts 0 are arranged to operate. Metallic an gle-pieces d'are secured to the stick A at each or either end,,or wherever a bolt is located. These constitute bed-plates for the bolts, also giving additional strength to the stick when it is made of wood, and preventing the nuts from wearing or sinkinginto such material. They may, however, be cast in one piece with the stick when the same is made of -metal. The projecting parts of these anglepieces rest upon the chase or galley, and serve to keep the stick upon its edge. In ordinary cases an additional nut, 6, may be employed; but where a metal stick is used and less length of bolt is required, the bolt can be fastened securely into the side-stick, and the inner nuts dispensed with. These nuts may be of the same orof different lengths. After the form has been placed in a chase, as shown in the drawing, the side-stick A is set against the same and the nuts 0 turned by a wrench or in any convenient way, so that they shall come in contact with and bear against the frame f of the chase. By such means the side-stick may bepressed tightly against the form, which will be securely locked within the chase.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is r "The side-stick A, having attached thereto the screw-threaded bolts'b, adjusting-nuts c, and angle-pieces d, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
