ARKANSAS SWITCH Original application filed June 20, 1926, Serial No. 119,645.
Divided and this application filed December 20, 1926. Serial No. 155,967.
This invention aims to provide a novel means whereby a signal may be sounded at a predetermined time, or when a predetermined pressure has built up, or under any other conditions which may cause a hand to move over a dial.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
W'ith the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation disclosing a device constructed in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a transverse section of the structure delineated in Figure 1.
Referring to the form shown in Figures 1 and 2, the invention is embodied in a thermometer including a casing 33 provided with a dial 34 carrying a frame 35 wherein is journaled a shaft 36 operated by the mechanism 37 usually found in thermometers of this type, the shaft 36 carrying a main hand 38, the said shaft being journaled in a bearing 39 located in the insulating hub 41 of a. supplemental hand 40. A cap 42 cooperates with the hub 41. Tightening devices 43 and 44 connect the cap 42 with the hub 41. The hub 41, thus, is held frictionally for rotation in the dial 34. To the tightening clevice 44 is connected a conductor 45 assembled with a binding post 46 which is insulated at 47, from the casing 33, a conductor 48 being joined to the outer end of the binding post 46. A conductor 49 is joined electrically to the casing 33. The supplemental hand 40 carries a contact 50 wherewith the main hand 38 is adapted to engage.
In practical operation, the supplemental hand 40 is set at the desired place on the dial 34, and when the hand 38 moves around until it engages the contact 50, then there is established a circuit including the conductor 48. the binding post 46, the conductor 45, the conductor 51 which joins the tightening device 44 with the contact 50, the main hand 38. the shaft 36, the dial 34, and the con;- ductor 49.
This application embodies matter divided out of my co-pending application, Serial Number 119.645, filed June 20, 1926.
hat is claimed is In a device of the class described, a casing, a dial carried by the casing, a supplemental hand cooperating with the dial and including an integral hub journaled in the dial and engaging one surface of the dial, both the supplemental hand and the hub being made of insulating material, a cap on the hub and engaging the opposite surface of the dial to hold the hub frictionallv in the dial for rotation, thereby to adjust the position of the supplemental hand, a shaft rotatable in the hub, a main hand carried by the shaft and cooperating with the dial, the supplemental hand having a contact which the main hand engages as the main hand nioves past the supplemental hand, a tightening device passing through the cap and the entire length of the hub, and two conductors connected to the tightening device, one conductor extending through the hub longitudinally, and through the cap, the said conductor being extended along the supplemental hand externally thereof, and being joined to the contact, the other conductor being joined to the casing, the shaft being in electrical connection with the casing.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature.
JOHN H. HOBSON.
